Indian Rupee to Hong Kong Dollar explained

The page you are reading tracks the rate for Indian Rupee (INR) and Hong Kong Dollar (HKD) and compares it with the cost of an actual conversion at a range of providers. As of October 31, 2026, 1 INR buys 0.082616 HKD, while one HKD is worth 12.1041 INR.

The figure at the top is the interbank mid rate. It sits exactly halfway between the buying and selling prices on the wholesale market. Think of it as the cleanest reference you can get: it contains no profit margin and no fees, so consumers almost never receive it in full.

The amount that lands in the other account comes down to two things: the gap between the provider’s rate and the mid-market rate and the visible transfer or service fee. Below the converter and chart we explain how those costs work, show how they add up on a real amount and list practical steps to keep more of your money when you change INR into HKD.

How GoldexPay compares INR to HKD providers

We start from the live mid-market rate for INR/HKD. Each provider’s published fee and markup are applied on top, which gives the amount the recipient receives. We do this for 9 providers, placed side by side.

Rates are refreshed every 30 minutes, and the date on the page shows when the data was last updated. The final price is always set by the provider itself, since markets keep moving, especially when markets are busy.

No bank, app or exchange owns GoldexPay. Some of the links are affiliate links, which help pay for the site. That never changes the ranking: the provider that delivers the most HKD comes first, whether or not we have a link to it.

Where the cost of converting INR to HKD hides

Nearly every bank and app do not convert at the mid-market rate itself. They offer a rate that is a little less favourable and keep the difference. That gap is called the spread. If the margin is 2%, then about 2 out of every 100 INR never reach the recipient.

On top of the margin, many providers add a visible fee. This is usually a flat charge per payment, a share of what you send or a mix of both. For transfers sent through the banking network the receiving or intermediary bank sometimes deducts a charge too, which shrinks the amount that finally arrives.

Look twice at anything sold as commission-free. In many cases the margin in the rate simply does the work of the fee. The only fair way to compare is how much HKD the recipient ends up with for an identical INR amount, which is how the table above is sorted.

Recent movement in the INR/HKD rate

Over the past twelve months, the INR/HKD rate shows a change of -5.68%. During that year the rate peaked at 0.087983 HKD for one INR, and the lowest was 0.080916. The current 0.082616 is easy to place within that band.

That range between high and low puts the movement into real terms. For a bigger amount, the moment of conversion matters in actual money, even when the fee stays the same.

Exchange rates respond to central bank policy, economic data and shifts in risk appetite. We show the figures as they are and do not make predictions. If you want to act on a certain rate, it is more practical to set an alert than to guess.

The countries behind INR and HKD

Indian Rupee is the currency of India. Hong Kong Dollar is the official currency of Hong Kong SAR China. Knowing this helps for anyone who earns in one of these currencies and spends in the other.

The reasons for changing INR into HKD vary: rent or a mortgage abroad, tuition fees, a salary paid in another currency, savings or a holiday. Each situation asks for something different: a one-off large payment calls for the best rate, whereas frequent smaller payments are more sensitive to fixed fees.

Each country has its own payment habits. Depending on the country, you need an IBAN, a local account number or a mobile wallet, and in some places cash pickup or mobile money is common. Ask the recipient for the exact details in advance.

Sending a larger amount from INR to HKD

Only use providers that are regulated. A regulated provider is registered with a supervisor such as the FCA or your national central bank. Licensed payment firms must keep customer money separate from their own.

Double-check the recipient details before you confirm. Mistakes are rarely fixed quickly with transfers abroad. Watch out for pressure, urgency or a last-minute change of account details: confirm by phone using a number you already know.

Larger transfers often come with additional questions. You may need to show proof of the source of funds, like a statement or a sales contract. For big amounts it can pay to ask for a better rate. Ask whether you can fix the rate in advance.

Getting the most HKD for your INR

Judge on what arrives, not on what is advertised. A low headline fee proves nothing when the margin is high. The number that matters is the HKD amount after every cost, and that already includes both the markup and the fee.

When you pay by card abroad, you may be asked whether to pay in INR or in the local currency. That option is known as dynamic currency conversion, or DCC. The rate used is usually poor. Always opt to pay in the local currency so your bank or card issuer handles the exchange.

Timing can also matter. At weekends, with the wholesale market shut, some services add an extra buffer to the rate. If you are not in a hurry, a rate alert or limit order lets you convert automatically once INR/HKD reaches a level you choose. It saves you from checking the rate every day, but the target may never be reached.

The payment method matters as well. Card payments often cost more than a bank transfer, while a regular bank transfer to the provider is usually the cheapest way in. Sending less often but in larger amounts reduces what you pay in flat fees.

SWIFT versus local payout for INR to HKD

With a classic international transfer, the bank sends the payment via the SWIFT system. The money can pass through one or more correspondent banks, each of which can deduct a charge. It typically arrives within a few working days, with the full cost not always known upfront.

Many money transfer apps use a different model. They have local accounts on both sides, so your INR stays in the INR system and the recipient is paid in HKD from a local account. The result tends to be quicker and less expensive, and the amount that arrives is known in advance.

Speed is not down to the provider alone: how you pay, the time of day, cut-off times and bank holidays in both countries. New customers sometimes wait a little longer as the provider completes its checks. Finish verification in advance when a deadline is involved.

Example: converting 100,000.00 INR

Take a conversion of 100,000.00 INR. At the mid-market rate of 0.082616, you can work out the upper limit of what any provider could deliver in HKD. In reality every provider keeps something, since the margin and fees are taken out along the way.

Of the 9 providers we compared, Wise delivered the most and paid out 8,220.94 HKD at the time of our last update. The difference between that figure and the mid-market amount is the real price of the transfer.

Note that rankings shift with the amount you send. Fixed fees weigh heavily on small sums, while a percentage margin grows along with the amount. Try your actual amount in the calculator above and check whether the order changes.
