The way a SWIFT/BIC code from Indonesia is structured
A SWIFT/BIC code has 8 or 11 characters. Each part has a fixed meaning:
- CHAS Bank code
- 4 letters that identify the bank.
- ID Country code
- 2 letters for the country (ISO 3166).
- S1 Location code
- 2 characters for the city or region of the head office.
- XXX Branch code
- 3 characters for a specific branch. XXX means the head office.
SWIFT/BIC codes in Indonesia
On this page you find codes for 355 institutions in Indonesia – 772 codes altogether. Each code identifies a bank or one of its branches.
Every bank is listed with its own page showing its main code and if there are any, codes for branches and departments. The rest of this page covers how the codes work, what transfers cost and the checks worth doing.
Sending money to Indonesia for less
What you pay for a transfer to Indonesia is made up of several parts. You pay a transfer fee, possibly charges from intermediary banks and, most importantly, the exchange rate markup if the money is converted.
The real cost is often in the rate, not in the fee. An easy check: set the offered rate against the mid-market rate and work out the difference on your amount.
Money transfer services frequently use rates closer to the mid-market rate with clearer fees. Before your next transfer to Indonesia, it is worth comparing what arrives on GoldexPay instead of going straight to your bank.
Banks in Indonesia starting with :letter
You are looking at a selection: just institutions in Indonesia with a name starting with :letter. The figures for Indonesia mentioned here cover every bank we list, not just the ones under :letter.
Some banks appear under their legal name, which may start with words like Bank or Banco, so the letter can differ from what you expect. Try the full list for Indonesia when you are not sure how the name is spelled.
How reliable is this list?
Have the recipient copy the account details directly from their online banking. A wrong code can cause a delay, a payment being sent back or additional charges, so compare it with the list on this page.
The directory on GoldexPay is based on public sources. Still, banks merge, rename themselves or retire codes and our data may lag behind. Use this list as a starting point rather than the last word; the recipient’s bank details are leading. GoldexPay is an independent comparison site and has no link to the banks in this list.
Fraudsters regularly use payment requests carrying changed bank details that look completely genuine. Before paying, verify a change of bank details through a separate channel, using a number you already had.
Receiving money in Indonesia from abroad
A sender in another country will ask for several details from you. Share the account holder’s name, the IBAN or account number, your bank’s SWIFT code and your address.
The code of your bank is in the list on this page but always compare it with your own bank details. You can include the name and city of your bank.
What lands in your account is often lower than what was sent. Intermediary banks may deduct a fee, and if the money is converted, an exchange rate margin applies. Make clear with the sender who pays which costs before the money is sent.
What the letters in a Indonesia BIC mean
SWIFT/BIC codes follow one international format: eight characters plus an optional three-character extension. First comes a four-letter bank code, followed by two letters for the country and a two-character location code.
You can spot a bank code from Indonesia from the fifth and sixth characters: they always show the ISO country code of Indonesia. A code with a different country code belong to a bank abroad, even if the bank name looks familiar.
If the last three are XXX, it means the main office and the short version works just as well. Choose a branch code just when the recipient explicitly gives you one; otherwise the head office code is the safe choice.
The largest SWIFT network in Indonesia: Bank Negara Indonesia - Pt (Persero)
In our directory, Bank Negara Indonesia - Pt (Persero) has the most SWIFT/BIC codes in Indonesia. The head office uses BNINIDJAXXX.
How many codes a bank has says more about how it organises its payments than about its size. Unless the recipient asks for a branch, the head office code BNINIDJAXXX works for transfers to this bank.
Paying a bank in Indonesia from abroad
Since Indonesia is outside SEPA, an international payment is usually sent through SWIFT. This means the payment always needs the BIC of the recipient’s bank, together with the account number or IBAN.
Depending on the country, accounts are identified by a domestic account number instead of an IBAN and sometimes a local routing or branch code. Ask the recipient exactly which details their bank requires for incoming international payments – many banks give clear instructions for this. Before it arrives, a transfer may pass through correspondent banks that charge for their part.
Tracking a payment to Indonesia
There is no single delivery time for transfers to Indonesia: some land within a day while others need several business days. Payments made after the cut-off time or just before weekends and holidays usually go out a business day later.
When a payment takes longer than expected, ask the sender to contact their own bank for a trace – the receiving bank often cannot see a payment that has not arrived. Keep your transfer receipt until the recipient confirms.
