How a SWIFT/BIC code from Indonesia is structured
A SWIFT/BIC code has 8 or 11 characters. Each part has a fixed meaning:
- RABO Bank code
- 4 letters that identify the bank.
- ID Country code
- 2 letters for the country (ISO 3166).
- JA Location code
- 2 characters for the city or region of the head office.
- XXX Branch code
- 3 characters for a specific branch. XXX means the head office.
Indonesia: banks and their SWIFT/BIC codes
For Indonesia we have 772 SWIFT/BIC codes. A SWIFT code tells every bank in the chain which institution is meant to get an international payment.
Select the bank from the list to see the head office code and any branch codes. The rest of this page covers the structure of the codes, what transfers cost and how to avoid mistakes.
Incoming international payments in Indonesia
To receive an international payment into a Indonesia account, the sender needs not just the BIC. In practice that means: your name as your bank knows it, your account number or IBAN, the SWIFT/BIC code of your bank and usually your postal address.
Your bank’s code is in our list but always compare it with your own bank details. Certain sending banks also want your bank’s address; it does no harm to include it.
What lands in your account can be lower than what was sent. Intermediary banks may deduct a fee, and when currencies differ, an exchange rate margin applies. For business payments, state who bears the costs.
The structure of a Indonesia SWIFT/BIC code
Every SWIFT/BIC code consists of eight or eleven characters, always in the same order. Characters one to four identify the bank, the fifth and sixth characters are the country code and the next two mark the location.
For banks in Indonesia, letters five and six show the two-letter ISO code of Indonesia. When those two letters point to another country, the code belongs to a bank somewhere else, so check again.
When a code ends in XXX, it refers to the head office and the short version works just as well. In most cases the head office code is what you need unless the recipient asks for a specific branch.
When does money sent to Indonesia arrive?
There is no single delivery time for transfers to Indonesia: some arrive the same day or the next while others need several business days. Payments made late in the day or just before weekends and holidays usually go out the next business day.
Many banks are connected to SWIFT gpi for faster and traceable payments. Every payment gets a unique reference, the UETR. Money transfer services often provide tracking online.
SWIFT transfers to Indonesia
To pay into Indonesia you will usually need the BIC – Indonesia is not a SEPA country. Without the BIC, most banks cannot process the transfer at all.
Not all countries use the IBAN; in that case the local account number is used instead. Ask the recipient exactly which details their bank requires for payments from abroad. Before it arrives, a transfer can go through intermediary banks.
Banks in Indonesia starting with :letter
This page shows only banks in Indonesia whose name starts with :letter, sorted alphabetically. The counts in the introduction always refer to the whole country, not just this letter.
Cannot find the bank? The registered name may begin with another word, for example the full legal name rather than a brand name. Use the full list for Indonesia when you do not know how the name is spelled.
About our data and how to check a code
Ask the recipient to send you their bank details straight from their online banking. If the code you have does not match the code listed here, stop and ask – contact the recipient or their bank.
We gather bank codes using public sources and check our list from time to time. Still, banks merge or change codes and our data may lag behind. Use our data as a starting point rather than the last word; the recipient’s bank details are leading. GoldexPay is an independent comparison site and has no link to the banks in this list.
Scammers often use payment requests with changed bank details that look completely genuine. A valid BIC says nothing about whether a request is genuine – scammers use the codes of real banks.
Bank Negara Indonesia - Pt (Persero) and its SWIFT codes
In our directory, Bank Negara Indonesia - Pt (Persero) holds the most SWIFT/BIC codes in Indonesia. Its head office code is BNINIDJAXXX.
Many codes often reflects that the bank registers branches and departments separately, not necessarily that the bank is the biggest in the country. Making a payment to Bank Negara Indonesia - Pt (Persero)? Use BNINIDJAXXX except when the recipient gives you a branch code.
Sending money to Indonesia for less
A bank transfer to Indonesia often costs rather more than you think. You pay the transfer fee, possibly fees from correspondent banks along the way and, above all, the margin on the exchange rate.
The markup on the rate is often the largest cost item. An easy check: put the rate you get against the mid-market rate and work out the difference on your amount.
For many currency pairs, a transfer service turns out to be less expensive than a traditional bank transfer, mainly because of the rate. On GoldexPay we compare the amount that arrives in Indonesia across providers.
