- MY Country code

- 21 Location code
- 2 characters for the city or region of the head office.
- XXX Branch code
- 3 characters for a specific branch. XXX means the head office.
Bank SWIFT codes for Malaysia
In Malaysia we have 413 SWIFT/BIC codes. A SWIFT code shows every bank in the chain which institution should receive the money.
Search for the bank you need in the list and open its page for the full list of codes and the details a transfer needs. Further down you can read how codes from Malaysia are built, how to send money there at a fair price and what to check before you pay.
Why a transfer to Malaysia needs a SWIFT code
For Malaysia you usually need the BIC – Malaysia is not a SEPA country. Without it, most banks will not process the transfer at all.
In some countries, the account is identified by a local account number instead of an IBAN, sometimes with an extra bank or branch code. Ask the recipient which details their bank requires for incoming international payments. International transfers can pass through correspondent banks.
Transfer times to Malaysia
There is no fixed delivery time for payments to Malaysia: many land the same day or the next, others take several business days. Transfers sent late in the day or on weekends and holidays often go out a business day later.
A growing number of banks are connected to SWIFT gpi. Each gpi transfer carries a unique reference, the UETR. Money transfer services often provide a status online, which makes it easier to see where the money is.
Receiving money in Malaysia from abroad
For a transfer from abroad in Malaysia, the person paying you needs not just the BIC. Give them the account holder’s name, the IBAN or account number, the BIC of your bank and your address, which some banks require.
Look up the bank in the list on this page to check its code, but take the code from your own bank details when in doubt. Some banks also want your bank’s address.
Do not be surprised if the amount credited is below the amount on the sender’s receipt. Fees for incoming transfers differ per bank. On invoices, agree how the fees are split to avoid a shortfall.
Bank or transfer service for Malaysia?
If you send money to Malaysia through a regular bank, the stated fee is only part of the cost. You pay the transfer fee, sometimes charges from intermediary banks and, above all, the exchange rate markup when currencies differ.
The markup on the rate tends to be the biggest cost item, even though it is not listed as a fee. A simple test: set the offered rate against the mid-market rate and work out the difference on your amount.
Specialist money transfer services often offer a rate near the mid-market rate. GoldexPay compares these providers next to each other so you can see the amount that reaches the recipient.
About our data and how to check a code
The safest source for a SWIFT code is the recipient’s own bank details – an invoice, a statement or a screenshot from online banking. A wrong code may lead to a delay, a payment being sent back or extra fees.
The directory on GoldexPay draws on public sources and is updated regularly. Even so, banks merge, rename themselves or retire codes and our data may lag behind. Before any payment that matters, confirm the code with the recipient. We are an independent comparison service for money transfers, not a bank.
Scammers often send payment requests with changed bank details that look completely genuine. Always confirm changed details by phone.
SWIFT codes in Malaysia: banks under :letter
This filter limits the list down to banks from Malaysia that begin with :letter. The figures for Malaysia mentioned here apply to every bank we list and not only this letter.
If the bank you need does not appear here, try another letter. The full overview for Malaysia remains one click away if the letter filter does not help.
Recognising a SWIFT code from Malaysia
A BIC is 8 or 11 characters long. The first four letters stand for the bank, characters five and six form the country code and characters seven and eight give the location.
In every code from Malaysia, characters five and six show the ISO country code of Malaysia. Codes with other letters in that position come from another country, even if the bank name looks familiar.
If the last three are XXX, it means the head office and the short version works just as well. For most transfers the head office code is what you need, unless the recipient gives you a branch code.
The largest SWIFT network in Malaysia: United Overseas Bank (Malaysia) Berhad
Of all banks we list for Malaysia, United Overseas Bank (Malaysia) Berhad has the most codes. Its head office code is UOVBMYKLXXX.
A large number of codes often means that the bank registers branches and departments separately – it says nothing about the size of the bank as such. Unless a branch code is given, the head office code UOVBMYKLXXX works for transfers to this bank.
