eToro vs KuCoin
Choosing between eToro and KuCoin is less obvious than it looks. The real question is how much ends up on the other side once the fee and the rate markup have been taken into account. This page puts a number on that.
In our comparison, eToro belongs to the broker group and covers Currencies, Cryptocurrencies, while KuCoin belongs to crypto exchange and handles Currencies, Cryptocurrencies. Those two labels say a fair bit about when one can stand in for the other.
Below the calculator we walk through our method, where each provider tends to do well and which one fits which situation. Rates on this page are live, so the outcome can shift during the day.
Why the amount can change the winner
The cheapest choice for a small amount is not always the cheapest for a large one. Fixed fees hit small transfers hardest; percentage margins hit large ones hardest. So look at the row closest to the amount you plan to convert.
If you move larger sums regularly, check whether tiered pricing applies, something our standard scenarios do not always capture. For any large transfer, confirm the final quote in the app before you approve it.
Safety checks before you sign up
Before you look at cost, check who is looking after your money. A legitimate provider is licensed or registered with a financial regulator. The supervisor’s public register lets you check this yourself.
For money services, the key word is safeguarding: customer funds should be kept separate from the company’s own money, so they are protected if the company runs into trouble. That is a different kind of protection from a bank deposit guarantee scheme.
With crypto platforms, look a little further: check their registration, how they store customer assets and whether withdrawals to your own wallet are possible. And on any platform: turn on 2FA and never reuse passwords.
eToro or KuCoin: which fits your situation?
For travel spending, focus on card payments and cash withdrawals rather than bank transfers. Holding a balance in the local currency avoids converting at every purchase.
To send money to a bank account abroad, compare the received amount for your usual sum. Large one-off sums deserve a separate check: limits, extra verification and the margin all weigh more.
When buying crypto, check that crypto is supported at all, then compare spreads and withdrawal fees. Businesses should look at business accounts and batch payments, which not every provider offers. We compare costs only; this is not investment advice.
Which one is cheaper?
Across 3 of the 3 conversions that eToro and KuCoin both support, KuCoin delivered the better result once fees and exchange rate were counted. If cost is your main concern, start with KuCoin.
This does not rule out eToro. Check the table above to see where eToro comes out ahead, and if your own transfer matches one of those rows, the overall tally matters a lot less.
There is more to it than price. Speed, limits and the way you pay in can tip the balance toward eToro. On a modest amount, a small price gap is often worth less than that convenience.
Fees vs exchange-rate margin
Plenty of services advertise a zero fee. Often the cost simply moves into the exchange rate, where it is harder to spot. A margin of a fraction of a percent sounds small, but it grows with every amount you convert.
So we never compare fees on their own. Two providers can arrive at a similar price by very different routes. The amount received is the honest benchmark.
Also look beyond the conversion: card payment fees, surcharges for weekends or rare currencies, and costs on the receiving side. Not all of these show up in our scenarios, so read the fee page before you send a large amount.
A money service and a crypto exchange
These two come from different corners of the market: broker and crypto exchange. Their offers overlap only in part. We can only compare the conversions both of them offer.
A money service focuses on paying, spending and sending in regular currencies. An exchange is first of all a place to trade crypto, with euros or dollars mainly used to get in and out. Keep this in mind when you read the result.
If you only want to change currency or send money abroad, a crypto platform is mostly a detour. If crypto is the goal, the exchange is the logical place, even if it also handles some currency transfers.
Speed: eToro vs KuCoin
The fastest delivery we have on record for eToro is Instant; for KuCoin it is Instant. Treat these as the best case rather than a promise. A first transfer often takes longer because of identity checks.
Speed often depends on how you pay. A card payment or instant bank transfer is usually quicker than a regular bank transfer, but it can cost more. When there is no rush, a slower option can save you money.
Convenience counts too: a clear app, transfer tracking and quick support make a difference when something goes wrong. Which app feels easier is a matter of taste.
How we calculate the cost
There are two parts to the price of any conversion: a fee and an exchange-rate margin. As a benchmark we use the live mid-market rate, the rate banks and large traders use among themselves. That gap is the margin, which we add to the fee to get the total cost.
We test a range of sample amounts, small, medium and large, since a fixed fee hurts more on small sums. We update rates every 30 minutes and take fees from each provider’s public price list. Promotions, account tiers and personal discounts are not always included, so your own offer may differ.
GoldexPay is independent. Affiliate links help pay for the site, but the ranking is based on cost alone. The numbers decide, not the commission.
Can you use eToro and KuCoin together?
Using two providers side by side is common. A second account gives you a backup and an easy price check. Expect to verify your identity with each provider separately.
Before every larger transfer, check the calculator on this page, since rates move and the cheaper side can flip. That small habit can save more than any loyalty bonus.
When you move away from one provider, withdraw or spend your remaining balance first and save your statements, as you may need them later for your tax return.
