Bybit versus eToro: a side-by-side cost check
Choosing between Bybit and eToro comes down to more than the brand name. The real question is how much ends up on the other side once the fee and the rate markup are added up. This page puts a number on that.
On our site, Bybit sits in the crypto exchange category and handles Currencies, Cryptocurrencies, while eToro belongs to broker with support for Currencies, Cryptocurrencies. That alone tells you a fair bit about where they overlap and where they do not.
Further down this page you can read our method, the trade-offs that do not show up in a single number, and which one fits which situation. Rates on this page are live, so the numbers may differ slightly from yesterday.
The short answer: Bybit is cheaper more often
In 3 of 3 conversions that both providers offer, Bybit delivered the better result at live rates. If cost is your main concern, start with Bybit.
This does not rule out eToro. The scenario table above shows the routes where eToro does better. If your currency pair and amount are among them, the overall tally matters a lot less.
Cost is one thing, not everything. You may already have a verified account with eToro, which saves a sign-up. A few cents on a small transfer rarely beat that kind of convenience.
Bybit or eToro: which fits your situation?
When you travel, compare what a card payment in a foreign currency costs at each. A multi-currency account with a card is usually the most practical tool.
To send money to a bank account abroad, compare the received amount for your usual sum. For large amounts, such as a house deposit or tuition, even a small margin difference adds up, and limits and verification matter as well.
If you want to buy crypto, only a provider that handles crypto will do, and spreads and withdrawal fees matter most. Business users often need other features, such as multiple users and bulk payments. This page compares cost, not suitability as an investment.
Delivery time and ease of use
The fastest delivery we have on record for Bybit is Instant; for eToro it is Instant. That is the quickest route, not the usual one for every transfer. Weekends, first-time checks and the recipient’s bank can slow things down.
Speed often depends on how you pay. A card payment or instant bank transfer is usually quicker than a regular bank transfer, but it can cost more. When there is no rush, a slower option can save you money.
Beyond raw speed, think about convenience: how easy the app is, whether you can track a transfer and how fast support responds. Which app feels easier is a matter of taste.
Small amounts vs large amounts
The size of the amount can change the winner. Fixed fees hit small transfers hardest; percentage margins hit large ones hardest. So look at the row closest to the amount you plan to convert.
For large amounts, it can pay to ask about volume pricing, which is not always visible in our sample amounts. For any large transfer, confirm the final quote in the app before you approve it.
Is your money safe?
Price matters, but so does knowing your money is handled properly. Regulated financial services are licensed or registered with a supervisor in the countries where they operate. Providers normally list their licence and the supervising authority on their website.
An important question is safeguarding: your balance should be held apart from the firm’s own money. Note that safeguarding differs from a bank deposit guarantee.
With crypto platforms, look a little further: ask about registration, custody and withdrawal options. Whichever you choose, switch on two-factor authentication and use a unique password.
Why “zero fee” is not always cheap
“No fees” is one of the most common claims in money transfer, and one of the most misleading. A provider can still earn its money on the rate. A margin of a fraction of a percent sounds small, but it grows with every amount you convert.
For this reason our comparison combines the fee and the rate margin into one number. One provider may charge a clear fee with a tight rate, another may skip the fee and widen the rate. Only the amount that arrives tells you who is really cheaper.
Watch for extra costs outside the conversion itself: withdrawal and network fees, card costs and fees at intermediary banks. Some of these sit outside what we can measure, so check the provider’s fee page before a big transfer.
Using both, or switching
You do not have to pick just one. It is perfectly normal to keep Bybit for one task and eToro for another. Signing up rarely costs anything, but verification is not always instant.
Before every larger transfer, compare live quotes here first, since rates move and the cheaper side can flip. It takes a minute and can save real money.
Before you close an account, make sure no balance or scheduled transfer is left behind and keep a copy of your transaction history.
Our method
The cost of a conversion has two parts: a visible fee and a margin hidden in the exchange rate. We compare the rate each provider gives you with the live mid-market rate, the midpoint between buy and sell prices on the wholesale market. That gap is the margin, which we add to the fee to get the total cost.
Each conversion is checked with several sample amounts since a fixed fee hurts more on small sums. We update rates every 30 minutes and take fees from each provider’s public price list. Promotions, account tiers and personal discounts are not always included, so your own offer may differ.
GoldexPay is independent. Affiliate links help pay for the site, but the ranking is based on cost alone. The cheaper option is shown as cheaper, full stop.
Two kinds of service, partly overlapping
This comparison puts two different kinds of services side by side: crypto exchange and broker. Their offers overlap only in part. We can only compare the conversions both of them offer.
A money service is built for sending and spending currencies, often to bank accounts abroad. A crypto exchange revolves around digital assets; regular currencies are mostly the on-ramp and off-ramp. So the cheaper side in the table is only part of the picture.
If you only want to change currency or send money abroad, a crypto platform is mostly a detour. If crypto is the goal, the exchange is the logical place, even if it also handles some currency transfers.
