MEXC or Revolut: what each one really costs
Picking MEXC or Revolut is less obvious than it looks. What matters is how much of your money arrives once both the visible fee and the hidden margin are added up. That is the gap we measure here.
In our comparison, MEXC belongs to the crypto exchange group and covers Currencies, Cryptocurrencies, while Revolut sits in broker and handles Currencies, Cryptocurrencies, Precious metals. That alone tells you something about where they overlap and where they do not.
Below the calculator you can read how we work out the cost, where each provider tends to do well, and who should pick which. Rates on this page are live, so the numbers may differ slightly from yesterday.
Regulation and safety
Price matters, but so does knowing your money is handled properly. Look for a licence or registration with a financial regulator in your country or region. Providers normally list their licence and the supervising authority on their website.
With e-money and transfer services, ask about safeguarding: your balance should be ring-fenced from the business’s own accounts. Safeguarding is not the same as a deposit guarantee, so a transfer app is no replacement for a savings account.
With crypto platforms, look a little further: registration with a regulator, how customer assets are stored and whether you can withdraw to your own wallet. In all cases, enable two-factor authentication (2FA) from day one.
Speed and convenience
Fastest delivery: Instant at MEXC and Instant at Revolut. Treat these as the best case rather than a promise. Bank holidays, verification checks and the receiving bank can all add time.
The payment method matters as much as the provider. A card payment or instant bank transfer is usually quicker than a regular bank transfer, but it can cost more. When there is no rush, a slower option can save you money.
Convenience counts too: a clear app, transfer tracking and quick support make a difference when something goes wrong. Try the app before you move a large amount.
The short answer: MEXC is cheaper more often
In 4 of 4 scenarios we can test on both sides, MEXC delivered the better result after fees and rate margin. If cost is your main concern, start with MEXC.
This does not rule out Revolut. The scenario table above shows which conversions Revolut still wins, and if your own transfer matches one of those rows, the overall tally matters a lot less.
There is more to it than price. Speed, limits and the way you pay in can tip the balance toward Revolut. For small sums, those practical points can outweigh the price difference.
Where MEXC and Revolut overlap, and where they do not
This comparison puts two different kinds of services side by side: crypto exchange versus broker. There is some overlap, but not much. Only the shared conversions appear in our scenarios, so the rest of each offer stays out of view.
Money apps are designed around currencies, cards and transfers to bank accounts. An exchange is first of all a place to trade crypto, with euros or dollars mainly used to get in and out. That difference matters more than a few cents on one conversion.
If you only want to change currency or send money abroad, the money service is usually the more natural choice. If you want to buy or sell crypto, an exchange offers more choice in assets and order types.
Fees vs exchange-rate margin
Plenty of services advertise a zero fee. A provider can still earn its money on the rate. A margin of a fraction of a percent sounds small, but it grows with every amount you convert.
So we never compare fees on their own. One provider may charge a clear fee with a tight rate, another may skip the fee and widen the rate. Only the amount that arrives tells you who is really cheaper.
Also look beyond the conversion: withdrawal and network fees, card costs and fees at intermediary banks. Some of these sit outside what we can measure, so check the provider’s fee page before a big transfer.
Which one suits you?
When you travel, look at card fees, cash withdrawal limits and weekend surcharges, not just the transfer price. Holding a balance in the local currency avoids converting at every purchase.
If you send money abroad regularly, compare the received amount for your usual sum. For large amounts, such as a house deposit or tuition, even a small margin difference adds up, and limits and verification matter as well.
When buying crypto, you need a platform that actually supports crypto, and you should compare spreads and withdrawal costs. For business payments, check whether a business account is available and what it costs. We compare costs only; this is not investment advice.
Using both, or switching
Many people do not use one provider for everything. A second account gives you a backup and an easy price check. Opening an account is usually free, though identity verification can take a while.
Before every larger transfer, run the amount through the calculator, as the result depends on the moment and the sum. It is a quick check that pays off.
When you move away from one provider, make sure no balance or scheduled transfer is left behind and save your statements, as you may need them later for your tax return.
How we calculate the cost
The cost of a conversion has two parts: a fee and an exchange-rate margin. As a benchmark we use the live mid-market rate, the rate banks and large traders use among themselves. Fee plus margin gives the real cost.
We run this for several sample amounts, from small to large, since a fixed fee hurts more on small sums. Rates refresh every 30 minutes and fees come from the providers’ published fee schedules. Promotions, account tiers and personal discounts are not always included, so your own offer may differ.
GoldexPay is independent. Some links on the site are affiliate links, but they never change the order or the outcome. The numbers decide, not the commission.
Does the amount matter?
Who comes out ahead can flip as the amount grows. Fixed fees hit small transfers hardest; percentage margins hit large ones hardest. That is why the scenario table shows several amounts, not just one.
Some providers lower their percentage above certain thresholds, and your own price may then be better than the one shown. For any large transfer, confirm the final quote in the app before you approve it.
