Revolut versus WorldRemit

Deciding between Revolut and WorldRemit comes down to more than the brand name. The real question is how much ends up on the other side once every fee and the exchange rate are counted. This page puts a number on that.

In our database, Revolut falls into the broker group and covers Currencies, Cryptocurrencies, Precious metals, while WorldRemit belongs to money transfer service and covers Currencies. Those two labels say something about where they overlap and where they do not.

Below the calculator we explain how we work out the cost, what each one is good at, and how to combine the two. Since we work with live rates, the numbers may differ slightly from yesterday.

How we calculate the cost

There are two parts to the price of any conversion: a visible fee and a margin hidden in the exchange rate. Our yardstick is the mid-market rate: the midpoint between what the market bids and asks. That gap is the margin, which we add to the fee to get the total cost.

We run this for several sample amounts, from small to large, because fixed fees and percentage fees behave differently. We update rates every 30 minutes and take fees from each provider’s public price list. Special offers or paid plans can change the price you actually pay.

This comparison is independent. Some links on the site are affiliate links, but they never change the order or the outcome. The cheaper option is shown as cheaper, full stop.

Using both, or switching

Many people do not use one provider for everything. It is perfectly normal to keep Revolut for one task and WorldRemit for another. Opening an account is usually free, though identity verification can take a while.

Before every larger transfer, check the calculator on this page, as the result depends on the moment and the sum. It takes a minute and can save real money.

Before you close an account, make sure no balance or scheduled transfer is left behind and save your statements, as you may need them later for your tax return.

Which one is cheaper?

In 6 of 6 conversions we can test on both sides, Revolut delivered the better result after fees and rate margin. If cost is your main concern, start with Revolut.

That does not make WorldRemit the wrong choice. The scenario table above shows the routes where WorldRemit does better. If your currency pair and amount are among them, the overall tally matters a lot less.

There is more to it than price. WorldRemit may support a payment method, a currency or a delivery option you need. On a modest amount, a small price gap is often worth less than that convenience.

What to check on safety

Price matters, but so does knowing your money is handled properly. A legitimate provider is licensed or registered with a financial regulator. The supervisor’s public register lets you check this yourself.

For money services, the key word is safeguarding: your balance should be ring-fenced from the business’s own accounts. Safeguarding is not the same as a deposit guarantee, so a transfer app is no replacement for a savings account.

With crypto platforms, look a little further: registration with a regulator, how customer assets are stored and whether you can withdraw to your own wallet. Whichever you choose, switch on two-factor authentication and use a unique password.

Why “zero fee” is not always cheap

Plenty of services advertise a zero fee. If the exchange rate you get is worse than the mid-market rate, you pay through the rate instead. The bigger the amount, the more that margin hurts.

For this reason our comparison combines the fee and the rate margin into one number. One provider may charge a clear fee with a tight rate, another may skip the fee and widen the rate. Only the amount that arrives tells you who is really cheaper.

Also look beyond the conversion: weekend surcharges, card fees, charges by the receiving bank or withdrawal fees on crypto. Some of these sit outside what we can measure, so check the provider’s fee page before a big transfer.

Why the amount can change the winner

Who comes out ahead can flip as the amount grows. A fixed fee weighs heavily on a small transfer but barely registers on a large one. That is why the scenario table shows several amounts, not just one.

Some providers lower their percentage above certain thresholds, something our standard scenarios do not always capture. Before a big transfer with Revolut or WorldRemit, read the current pricing on their site.

The right choice depends on what you do

For travel spending, look at card fees, cash withdrawal limits and weekend surcharges, not just the transfer price. A multi-currency account with a card is usually the most practical tool.

For transfers to family or bills abroad, the total cost per transfer and the delivery time are what count. Large one-off sums deserve a separate check: limits, extra verification and the margin all weigh more.

For buying digital assets, only a provider that handles crypto will do, and spreads and withdrawal fees matter most. Businesses should look at business accounts and batch payments, which not every provider offers. This page compares cost, not suitability as an investment.

How fast the money arrives

The fastest delivery we have on record for Revolut is Instant; for WorldRemit it is Same day. Treat these as the best case rather than a promise. Weekends, first-time checks and the recipient’s bank can slow things down.

How you fund a transfer makes a big difference. Paying by card tends to be faster, and sometimes more expensive, than a standard bank transfer. When there is no rush, a slower option can save you money.

Convenience counts too: clear status updates and an app you like save time and stress. Which app feels easier is a matter of taste.
