Paysend or WorldRemit: what each one really costs
Deciding between Paysend and WorldRemit is less obvious than it looks. The useful question is how much of your money arrives once the fee and the rate markup are added up. That is exactly what this page measures.
In our comparison, Paysend falls into the money transfer service group and handles Currencies, while WorldRemit belongs to money transfer service with support for Currencies. That alone tells you a fair bit about where they overlap and where they do not.
Below the calculator we walk through our method, where each provider tends to do well and who should pick which. Because the rates are live, the numbers may differ slightly from yesterday.
Why the amount can change the winner
The cheapest choice for a small amount is not always the cheapest for a large one. Fixed fees hit small transfers hardest; percentage margins hit large ones hardest. That is why the scenario table shows several amounts, not just one.
For large amounts, it can pay to ask about volume pricing, something our standard scenarios do not always capture. For any large transfer, confirm the final quote in the app before you approve it.
Why not use both?
Many people do not use one provider for everything. A second account gives you a backup and an easy price check. Expect to verify your identity with each provider separately.
Each time you plan a bigger conversion, run the amount through the calculator, since rates move and the cheaper side can flip. That small habit can save more than any loyalty bonus.
Before you close an account, empty the balance, cancel any recurring payments and save your statements, as you may need them later for your tax return.
Verdict
Across 6 of the 6 comparisons we can test on both sides, Paysend left you with more money after fees and rate margin. If cost is your main concern, start with Paysend.
This does not rule out WorldRemit. Check the table above to see the routes where WorldRemit does better. If your currency pair and amount are among them, WorldRemit is simply the cheaper option for you.
Price is also not the only factor. You may already have a verified account with WorldRemit, which saves a sign-up. A few cents on a small transfer rarely beat that kind of convenience.
Our method
There are two parts to the price of any conversion: a fee and an exchange-rate margin. As a benchmark we use the live mid-market rate, the rate banks and large traders use among themselves. That gap is the margin, which we add to the fee to get the total cost.
Each conversion is checked with several sample amounts since a fixed fee hurts more on small sums. Rates refresh every 30 minutes and fees come from the providers’ published fee schedules. Special offers or paid plans can change the price you actually pay.
We are not owned by any provider. We may earn a commission through some links; that never affects which provider comes out cheaper. If a provider we earn nothing from is cheaper, it still comes out on top.
Speed and convenience
Fastest delivery: Within minutes at Paysend and Same day at WorldRemit. Treat these as the best case rather than a promise. Bank holidays, verification checks and the receiving bank can all add time.
How you fund a transfer makes a big difference. A card payment or instant bank transfer is usually quicker than a regular bank transfer, but it can cost more. Only pay for speed when you actually need it.
Beyond raw speed, think about convenience: a clear app, transfer tracking and quick support make a difference when something goes wrong. A small test transfer tells you more than any review.
The fee is only half the story
Plenty of services advertise a zero fee. A provider can still earn its money on the rate. On a large amount, a small margin can add up to more than a fixed fee would.
That is why we always look at the total: fee plus margin. Two providers can arrive at a similar price by very different routes. Only the amount that arrives tells you who is really cheaper.
Watch for extra costs outside the conversion itself: weekend surcharges, card fees, charges by the receiving bank or withdrawal fees on crypto. Some of these sit outside what we can measure, so check the provider’s fee page before a big transfer.
Like for like: Paysend and WorldRemit
Both Paysend and WorldRemit sit in the money transfer service category, so this is a like-for-like comparison. They solve the same problem, so price, speed and coverage decide.
Look at coverage first: supported currencies, countries and payment methods. On paper, Paysend supports Currencies and WorldRemit supports Currencies. A small gap in coverage can matter more than a small price difference.
After that, it comes down to price on your specific route, plus limits, verification and the quality of the app. Since both play in the same league, switching later is usually easy.
The right choice depends on what you do
If you mainly spend abroad on holiday, compare what a card payment in a foreign currency costs at each. Whichever of the two offers a usable card for your destination has a head start.
If you send money abroad regularly, the total cost per transfer and the delivery time are what count. For large amounts, such as a house deposit or tuition, even a small margin difference adds up, and limits and verification matter as well.
For buying digital assets, only a provider that handles crypto will do, and spreads and withdrawal fees matter most. For business payments, check whether a business account is available and what it costs. This page compares cost, not suitability as an investment.
Is your money safe?
Before you look at cost, check who is looking after your money. Regulated financial services are licensed or registered with a supervisor in the countries where they operate. The supervisor’s public register lets you check this yourself.
An important question is safeguarding: your balance should be held apart from the firm’s own money. That is a different kind of protection from a bank deposit guarantee scheme.
For crypto exchanges the questions are similar, but not the same: registration with a regulator, how customer assets are stored and whether you can withdraw to your own wallet. And on any platform: turn on 2FA and never reuse passwords.
