THB to CNY explained
This overview tracks the rate for Thai Baht (THB) and Chinese Yuan (CNY) and compares it with the cost of an actual conversion at a range of providers. On October 31, 2026, 1 THB buys 0.197268 CNY, while one CNY comes to 5.0692 THB.
That headline number is the interbank mid rate. It is calculated as the middle of what wholesale traders pay for THB and what they ask for it. Treat it as a neutral benchmark: it contains no profit margin and no fees, so you rarely get it as a private customer.
What ends up on the CNY side depends on two separate costs: the margin a provider adds to that rate and the visible transfer or service fee. Below the converter and chart we show how those costs are built up, show how they add up on a real amount and list practical steps to keep more of your money when you change THB into CNY.
50,000.00 THB to CNY, step by step
Take a transfer of 50,000.00 THB. Converted at the pure mid-market rate (0.197268), you can work out the upper limit of what is possible on the CNY side. In practice nobody hands over that full amount, since the margin and fees are taken out along the way.
Across the 9 providers in our comparison, Wise came out cheapest for this amount and paid out 9,816.04 CNY at the time of our last update. The gap between 9,816.04 CNY and the theoretical maximum is what the conversion actually cost you.
Keep in mind that the cheapest provider for 50,000.00 THB is not automatically the cheapest for every amount. Fixed fees weigh heavily on small sums, while the margin in the rate becomes the bigger cost on larger transfers. Run your own figure through the converter to see the ranking that applies to you.
Before you send: security and large amounts
Make sure the provider is licensed. In the UK that means authorisation by the FCA, elsewhere a central bank or financial supervisor. Regulated firms have to safeguard client funds and that offers protection if the company fails.
Check names and account details twice. Mistakes are rarely fixed quickly with transfers abroad. Watch out for pressure, urgency or a last-minute change of account details: confirm by phone using a number you already know.
Big sums usually trigger extra verification. Have documents ready that show where the money came from, like a statement or a sales contract. For big amounts it can pay to ask for a better rate. Some also let you lock in a rate for a short period.
Where you pay with THB and CNY
Thai Baht is the money you pay with in Thailand. Chinese Yuan is what people pay with in China. Knowing this helps for anyone who earns in one of these currencies and spends in the other.
The reasons for changing THB into CNY vary: rent or a mortgage abroad, tuition fees, a salary paid in another currency, savings or a holiday. Not every situation needs the same solution: a single big transfer benefits most from a sharp rate, whereas frequent smaller payments suffer more from flat charges.
Payout methods vary from country to country. Depending on the country, you need an IBAN, a local account number or a mobile wallet, and in some places mobile wallets or cash collection are widely used. Have the recipient’s full details ready before you begin.
The THB/CNY rate over twelve months
Over the past twelve months, the price of THB in CNY has changed by -10.40%. During that year the highest level was 0.225989 CNY for one THB, and the lowest was 0.197221. The current 0.197268 is easy to place within that band.
The spread between the year’s extremes shows how much the rate can move in practice. On a large conversion, timing has a visible effect on the outcome, sometimes more than the choice of provider.
Rates are pushed around by news, economic data and supply and demand on the market. These figures describe the past and say nothing about what comes next. If timing matters to you, use an alert or limit order rather than a hunch.
How to get a better THB to CNY rate
Compare the total cost, not the fee alone. A provider with a low fee can still be expensive because the margin can make up the difference. What you want to know is the amount received, and that already includes both the markup and the fee.
If you pay or withdraw cash in a CNY country, you can get a choice between your own currency and the local one. That option is known as dynamic currency conversion, or DCC. The rate used is usually poor. Choose the local currency so your bank or card issuer handles the exchange.
Watch the timing as well. Some providers widen their margin at weekends, when currency markets are closed. For transfers that can wait, you can set a target rate and let the provider convert only when it is reached. That avoids guessing, but there is no guarantee the rate will get there.
The payment method matters as well. A credit card may be treated as a cash advance by your card issuer, and a regular bank transfer to the provider is usually the cheapest way in. Sending less often but in larger amounts means fixed charges hit you fewer times.
What banks and apps really charge for THB to CNY
Most providers will not give you the rate of 0.197268 as such. They quote a slightly worse rate and pocket the gap. People call this the spread. With a 2% markup, for instance, for every 100 THB you convert, about 2 THB worth disappears before the money arrives.
On top of the margin, many providers ask for a separate fee. This is usually a fixed amount per transfer, a share of what you send or both at once. For transfers sent through the banking network extra deductions can follow, which shrinks the amount that finally arrives.
Be wary of anything sold as commission-free. The cost often sits in the rate instead. The only fair way to compare is the final CNY figure for an identical THB amount, and that is the figure our table ranks on.
How our THB/CNY comparison works
We start from the live mid-market rate for THB/CNY. For each provider we apply its published fees and the margin it adds to the rate, to calculate what actually arrives in CNY. The comparison covers 9 providers, ranked from most to least received.
The figures refresh every half hour, with October 31, 2026 as the reference date. The final price is always set by the provider itself, because their rate can move between our updates, especially when markets are busy.
No bank, app or exchange owns GoldexPay. Some links on this page are affiliate links, which help pay for the site. That never changes the ranking: the only ranking criterion is the amount received.
Bank transfer or money transfer service for CNY?
A traditional bank sends your payment over the SWIFT network. The money can pass through one or more correspondent banks, and each can take a fee. Expect anything from one to a few working days, and the final deduction is often only visible afterwards.
Many money transfer apps use a different model. They keep money in accounts in both regions, which means your payment and the payout both happen domestically. This usually cuts both time and cost, with the final CNY amount fixed upfront.
Speed is not down to the provider alone: how you pay, the time of day, cut-off times and bank holidays in both countries. A first transfer can take longer because the provider has to verify your identity. Upload your documents early if timing is tight.
