Bitpanda versus HTX
Deciding between Bitpanda and HTX is less obvious than it looks. The useful question is how much you actually keep once both the visible fee and the hidden margin have been taken into account. That is exactly what this page measures.
In our database, Bitpanda sits in the broker group and handles Currencies, Cryptocurrencies, Precious metals, while HTX sits in crypto exchange and handles Currencies, Cryptocurrencies. That alone tells you quite a lot about where they overlap and where they do not.
Below the calculator we walk through our method, what each one is good at and who should pick which. Rates on this page are live, so the outcome can shift during the day.
Regulation and safety
Cheap is only good if your money is in safe hands. Regulated financial services are licensed or registered with a supervisor in the countries where they operate. Providers normally list their licence and the supervising authority on their website.
With e-money and transfer services, ask about safeguarding: your balance should be ring-fenced from the business’s own accounts. Note that safeguarding differs from a bank deposit guarantee.
With crypto platforms, look a little further: check their registration, how they store customer assets and whether withdrawals to your own wallet are possible. And on any platform: turn on 2FA and never reuse passwords.
Where the real cost hides
Plenty of services advertise a zero fee. A provider can still earn its money on the rate. The bigger the amount, the more that margin hurts.
For this reason our comparison combines the fee and the rate margin into one number. One provider may charge a clear fee with a tight rate, another may skip the fee and widen the rate. The amount received is the honest benchmark.
Watch for extra costs outside the conversion itself: withdrawal and network fees, card costs and fees at intermediary banks. Not all of these show up in our scenarios, so read the fee page before you send a large amount.
Where Bitpanda and HTX overlap, and where they do not
This comparison puts two different kinds of services side by side: broker and crypto exchange. Their offers overlap only in part. Only the shared conversions appear in our scenarios, so the rest of each offer stays out of view.
A money service is built for sending and spending currencies, often to bank accounts abroad. An exchange is first of all a place to trade crypto, with euros or dollars mainly used to get in and out. So the cheaper side in the table is only part of the picture.
For everyday currency needs, a crypto platform is mostly a detour. If crypto is the goal, the exchange is the logical place, even if it also handles some currency transfers.
The right choice depends on what you do
If you mainly spend abroad on holiday, look at card fees, cash withdrawal limits and weekend surcharges, not just the transfer price. A multi-currency account with a card is usually the most practical tool.
If you send money abroad regularly, the total cost per transfer and the delivery time are what count. For large amounts, such as a house deposit or tuition, even a small margin difference adds up, and limits and verification matter as well.
For buying digital assets, only a provider that handles crypto will do, and spreads and withdrawal fees matter most. For business payments, check whether a business account is available and what it costs. Nothing here is investment advice.
Does the amount matter?
Who comes out ahead can flip as the amount grows. Fixed fees hit small transfers hardest; percentage margins hit large ones hardest. So look at the row closest to the amount you plan to convert.
Some providers lower their percentage above certain thresholds, which is not always visible in our sample amounts. Before a big transfer with Bitpanda or HTX, read the current pricing on their site.
Speed: Bitpanda vs HTX
Fastest delivery: Instant at Bitpanda and Instant at HTX. These are best cases, not guarantees. Bank holidays, verification checks and the receiving bank can all add time.
How you fund a transfer makes a big difference. Paying by card tends to be faster, and sometimes more expensive, than a standard bank transfer. Only pay for speed when you actually need it.
Convenience counts too: how easy the app is, whether you can track a transfer and how fast support responds. Which app feels easier is a matter of taste.
Our method
The cost of a conversion has two parts: a fee and an exchange-rate margin. As a benchmark we use the live mid-market rate, the rate banks and large traders use among themselves. The gap is the margin, and we add it to the fee.
We test a range of sample amounts, small, medium and large, since a fixed fee hurts more on small sums. Rates refresh every 30 minutes and fees come from the providers’ published fee schedules. Special offers or paid plans can change the price you actually pay.
We are not owned by any provider. Affiliate links help pay for the site, but the ranking is based on cost alone. The numbers decide, not the commission.
Switching between Bitpanda and HTX
You do not have to pick just one. Plenty of users keep an account with both and choose per transfer. Opening an account is usually free, though identity verification can take a while.
For anything above everyday amounts, compare live quotes here first, because the cheapest option can change with the rate and the amount. It takes a minute and can save real money.
Before you close an account, empty the balance, cancel any recurring payments and keep a copy of your transaction history.
The short answer: HTX is cheaper more often
Across 4 of the 4 conversions we can test on both sides, HTX left you with more money once fees and exchange rate were counted. If cost is your main concern, start with HTX.
Still, Bitpanda is not out of the race. The scenario table above shows which conversions Bitpanda still wins, and if your own transfer matches one of those rows, Bitpanda is simply the cheaper option for you.
There is more to it than price. Bitpanda may support a payment method, a currency or a delivery option you need. A few cents on a small transfer rarely beat that kind of convenience.
