BLOX vs Revolut

Choosing between BLOX and Revolut is rarely about the logo. The useful question is how much you actually keep once the fee and the rate markup have been taken into account. That is the gap we measure here.

In our database, BLOX belongs to the crypto exchange group and works with Currencies, Cryptocurrencies, while Revolut belongs to broker and covers Currencies, Cryptocurrencies, Precious metals. Those two labels say quite a lot about which jobs each one is built for.

Below the calculator you can read how we work out the cost, what each one is good at, and how to combine the two. Rates on this page are live, so the outcome can shift during the day.

BLOX or Revolut: which fits your situation?

For travel spending, compare what a card payment in a foreign currency costs at each. Holding a balance in the local currency avoids converting at every purchase.

If you send money abroad regularly, look at the amount received and how fast it arrives. With bigger sums, ask about limits and extra checks before you start.

When buying crypto, you need a platform that actually supports crypto, and you should compare spreads and withdrawal costs. Business users often need other features, such as multiple users and bulk payments. We compare costs only; this is not investment advice.

Verdict

Across 3 of the 3 scenarios that BLOX and Revolut both support, BLOX left you with more money at live rates. On price alone, that makes BLOX the default pick.

Still, Revolut is not out of the race. Scroll back to the table to find where Revolut comes out ahead. If your currency pair and amount are among them, Revolut is simply the cheaper option for you.

Price is also not the only factor. You may already have a verified account with Revolut, which saves a sign-up. For small sums, those practical points can outweigh the price difference.

Our method

There are two parts to the price of any conversion: the fee you see and the markup on the rate that you often do not. Our yardstick is the mid-market rate: the midpoint between what the market bids and asks. The gap is the margin, and we add it to the fee.

Each conversion is checked with several sample amounts so the effect of fixed fees and percentages becomes visible. Rates refresh every 30 minutes and fees come from the providers’ published fee schedules. Special offers or paid plans can change the price you actually pay.

GoldexPay is independent. Some links on the site are affiliate links, but they never change the order or the outcome. The cheaper option is shown as cheaper, full stop.

Where the real cost hides

“No fees” is one of the most common claims in money transfer, and one of the most misleading. Often the cost simply moves into the exchange rate, where it is harder to spot. The bigger the amount, the more that margin hurts.

For this reason our comparison combines the fee and the rate margin into one number. Two providers can arrive at a similar price by very different routes. The amount received is the honest benchmark.

Also look beyond the conversion: weekend surcharges, card fees, charges by the receiving bank or withdrawal fees on crypto. We include what is published, but it pays to double-check before a large transaction.

Speed: BLOX vs Revolut

Fastest delivery: Instant at BLOX and Instant at Revolut. These are best cases, not guarantees. Weekends, first-time checks and the recipient’s bank can slow things down.

Speed often depends on how you pay. Faster funding options can come with a higher fee, so check the total in the calculator. If the money is not urgent, the slower and cheaper route is often the smart choice.

Convenience counts too: how easy the app is, whether you can track a transfer and how fast support responds. Which app feels easier is a matter of taste.

Small amounts vs large amounts

The cheapest choice for a small amount is not always the cheapest for a large one. Fixed fees hit small transfers hardest; percentage margins hit large ones hardest. So look at the row closest to the amount you plan to convert.

If you move larger sums regularly, check whether tiered pricing applies, which is not always visible in our sample amounts. Before a big transfer with BLOX or Revolut, read the current pricing on their site.

Can you use BLOX and Revolut together?

Using two providers side by side is common. A second account gives you a backup and an easy price check. Signing up rarely costs anything, but verification is not always instant.

Before every larger transfer, check the calculator on this page, because the cheapest option can change with the rate and the amount. It is a quick check that pays off.

Before you close an account, make sure no balance or scheduled transfer is left behind and save your statements, as you may need them later for your tax return.

What to check on safety

Cheap is only good if your money is in safe hands. A legitimate provider is licensed or registered with a financial regulator. Providers normally list their licence and the supervising authority on their website.

For money services, the key word is safeguarding: your balance should be held apart from the firm’s own money. That is a different kind of protection from a bank deposit guarantee scheme.

With crypto platforms, look a little further: check their registration, how they store customer assets and whether withdrawals to your own wallet are possible. And on any platform: turn on 2FA and never reuse passwords.

Two kinds of service, partly overlapping

This comparison puts two different kinds of services side by side: crypto exchange versus broker. There is some overlap, but not much. We can only compare the conversions both of them offer.

A money service focuses on paying, spending and sending in regular currencies. A crypto exchange is built for buying, selling and storing digital assets, with regular money as the way in and out. That difference matters more than a few cents on one conversion.

When crypto is not on your list, the service built for transfers tends to fit better. For crypto, look at the exchange first and treat its currency features as a bonus.
