Crypto.com vs eToro
Picking Crypto.com or eToro is less obvious than it looks. The useful question is how much ends up on the other side once every fee and the exchange rate have been taken into account. This page puts a number on that.
In our database, Crypto.com falls into the crypto exchange group and works with Currencies, Cryptocurrencies, while eToro belongs to broker and covers Currencies, Cryptocurrencies. Those two labels say quite a lot about when one can stand in for the other.
Under the calculator and the scenario table we walk through how we work out the cost, where each provider tends to do well and who should pick which. Rates on this page are live, so the outcome can shift during the day.
Where Crypto.com and eToro overlap, and where they do not
This comparison puts two different kinds of services side by side: crypto exchange versus broker. They overlap, but only partly. We can only compare the conversions both of them offer.
A money service is built for sending and spending currencies, often to bank accounts abroad. A crypto exchange is built for buying, selling and storing digital assets, with regular money as the way in and out. Keep this in mind when you read the result.
For everyday currency needs, the service built for transfers tends to fit better. If crypto is the goal, the exchange is the logical place, even if it also handles some currency transfers.
Crypto.com or eToro: which fits your situation?
For travel spending, look at card fees, cash withdrawal limits and weekend surcharges, not just the transfer price. A multi-currency account with a card is usually the most practical tool.
For transfers to family or bills abroad, compare the received amount for your usual sum. Large one-off sums deserve a separate check: limits, extra verification and the margin all weigh more.
When buying crypto, you need a platform that actually supports crypto, and you should compare spreads and withdrawal costs. Businesses should look at business accounts and batch payments, which not every provider offers. We compare costs only; this is not investment advice.
Safety checks before you sign up
Cheap is only good if your money is in safe hands. A legitimate provider is licensed or registered with a financial regulator. Providers normally list their licence and the supervising authority on their website.
With e-money and transfer services, ask about safeguarding: your balance should be ring-fenced from the business’s own accounts. Safeguarding is not the same as a deposit guarantee, so a transfer app is no replacement for a savings account.
For crypto exchanges the questions are similar, but not the same: check their registration, how they store customer assets and whether withdrawals to your own wallet are possible. Whichever you choose, switch on two-factor authentication and use a unique password.
Our verdict
For 3 out of 3 scenarios that Crypto.com and eToro both support, Crypto.com left you with more money at live rates. On price alone, that makes Crypto.com the default pick.
Still, eToro is not out of the race. The scenario table above shows where eToro comes out ahead. If your currency pair and amount are among them, eToro is simply the cheaper option for you.
Cost is one thing, not everything. eToro may support a payment method, a currency or a delivery option you need. A few cents on a small transfer rarely beat that kind of convenience.
How we calculate the cost
There are two parts to the price of any conversion: the fee you see and the markup on the rate that you often do not. We compare the rate each provider gives you with the live mid-market rate, the midpoint between buy and sell prices on the wholesale market. Fee plus margin gives the real cost.
Each conversion is checked with several sample amounts because fixed fees and percentage fees behave differently. Rates refresh every 30 minutes and fees come from the providers’ published fee schedules. Special offers or paid plans can change the price you actually pay.
We are not owned by any provider. Affiliate links help pay for the site, but the ranking is based on cost alone. The cheaper option is shown as cheaper, full stop.
Where the real cost hides
Plenty of services advertise a zero fee. If the exchange rate you get is worse than the mid-market rate, you pay through the rate instead. On a large amount, a small margin can add up to more than a fixed fee would.
That is why we always look at the total: fee plus margin. Crypto.com and eToro may structure their pricing differently, one with a visible fee and a tight rate, the other with no fee and a wider spread. Only the amount that arrives tells you who is really cheaper.
Other costs can matter too: weekend surcharges, card fees, charges by the receiving bank or withdrawal fees on crypto. We include what is published, but it pays to double-check before a large transaction.
Switching between Crypto.com and eToro
Many people do not use one provider for everything. A second account gives you a backup and an easy price check. Expect to verify your identity with each provider separately.
Before every larger transfer, compare live quotes here first, as the result depends on the moment and the sum. It takes a minute and can save real money.
If you switch, empty the balance, cancel any recurring payments and keep a copy of your transaction history.
How fast the money arrives
Crypto.com lists its quickest option as Instant, while eToro lists Instant. These are best cases, not guarantees. A first transfer often takes longer because of identity checks.
Speed often depends on how you pay. Paying by card tends to be faster, and sometimes more expensive, than a standard bank transfer. If the money is not urgent, the slower and cheaper route is often the smart choice.
Convenience counts too: how easy the app is, whether you can track a transfer and how fast support responds. A small test transfer tells you more than any review.
Small amounts vs large amounts
The cheapest choice for a small amount is not always the cheapest for a large one. Fixed fees hit small transfers hardest; percentage margins hit large ones hardest. So look at the row closest to the amount you plan to convert.
If you move larger sums regularly, check whether tiered pricing applies, which is not always visible in our sample amounts. For any large transfer, confirm the final quote in the app before you approve it.
