Search for the bank you need below and click through to see the full list of codes and what else a transfer requires. Below the list you can read how codes from Russia are built, how to send money to Russia without overpaying and what to check before you pay.
What a sender needs to pay you in Russia
A sender in another country needs several details about your account, and missing ones are a common cause of delays. That means: your name as your bank knows it, your account number or IBAN, the BIC of your bank and sometimes your postal address.
The code of your bank is in the list on this page, yet the version on your own statement or in your banking app is leading. You can include your bank’s name and city.
Expect that the incoming amount is smaller than what the sender paid. Fees for incoming transfers vary from bank to bank; check the price list of your bank. On invoices, agree who bears the costs, so nobody is left short.
Bank or transfer service for Russia?
The price of a payment to Russia has several parts – not only the fee you see. You pay the transfer fee, sometimes fees from correspondent banks and, most importantly, the exchange rate markup.
Most of the cost usually sits in the exchange rate, not in the fee: banks convert at a rate with a margin built in. An easy check: put the offered rate against the mid-market rate and look at the difference.
For many routes, a specialist provider is less expensive than a bank. GoldexPay lists transfer services next to each other, showing what actually arrives in Russia before you commit.
Tracking a payment to Russia
A SWIFT payment to Russia usually takes one to a few business days – it depends on currency, route and the banks in between. Public holidays in Russia or in the sending country can add extra days, because banks do not process payments on those days.
Many banks use SWIFT gpi. Each payment gets a unique transaction reference, the UETR. Keep the payment confirmation; a bank needs it to start a trace.
The largest SWIFT network in Russia: JSC Rosselkhozbank
Of all banks we list for Russia, JSC Rosselkhozbank is listed with the most SWIFT codes. Its head office code is RUAGRUMMXXX.
Many codes often reflects separate codes for branches, departments or services, not necessarily that the bank is the biggest in the country. Making a payment to JSC Rosselkhozbank? Go with RUAGRUMMXXX except when the recipient gives you a branch code.
The structure of a Russia SWIFT/BIC code
A BIC is 8 or 11 characters long. First comes four letters for the bank, then two letters for the country and two characters for the location.
For banks in Russia, letters five and six show the ISO country code of Russia. Codes with other letters in that position come from another country – a quick way to catch mistakes.
When a code ends in XXX, it refers to the head office, and the 8-character version leads to the same place. Choose a branch code just when the recipient explicitly gives you one.
Paying a bank in Russia from abroad
Russia is outside the SEPA area, the European zone for uniform euro payments. Payments from abroad usually travel through the SWIFT network, and the BIC of the receiving bank is required.
Not every country uses the IBAN – where there is none, the local account number is enough. Ask the recipient exactly which details their bank requires for payments from abroad; banks often publish instructions for this. SWIFT payments can pass through correspondent banks.
How reliable is this list?
Ask the recipient to send you their bank details straight from a recent statement. When the code you were given differs from the code listed here, stop and ask.
The directory on GoldexPay is compiled from public sources. Still, banks merge, rename themselves or change codes. Use this list as a reference rather than the last word. GoldexPay is an independent comparison service for money transfers, not a bank.
Fraudsters regularly use payment requests carrying changed bank details. A valid BIC says nothing about who owns the account – scammers use the codes of real banks.
