SWIFT/BIC codes in Russia
Our directory covers 785 banks and other institutions in Russia and 1646 SWIFT/BIC codes between them. A BIC shows every bank in the chain which institution is meant to get the money.
Search for the bank you need below and click through to see the full list of codes. The sections below explain how the codes work, the cost of transfers and how to avoid mistakes.
Verifying a SWIFT code from Russia
The safest source for a SWIFT code is the bank details provided by the recipient: an invoice, a statement or their online banking. A wrong code may lead to delays, a returned payment or additional charges – compare it with the code in our list.
This list is compiled from publicly available sources. Still, banks merge or retire codes and our data may lag behind. Before any payment of any size, confirm the BIC with the recipient’s bank. GoldexPay is not a bank and is not affiliated with the banks listed.
Scammers often use payment requests carrying new bank details that look completely genuine. A real SWIFT code says nothing about who owns the account.

Why a transfer to Russia needs a SWIFT code
To pay into Russia you will almost always need the BIC – Russia is not a SEPA country. Without it, your bank will not send the payment.
Not all countries use the IBAN. Ask the recipient which details their bank needs for payments from abroad. International transfers sometimes go via correspondent banks, each of which may deduct a fee.
The structure of a Russia SWIFT/BIC code
SWIFT/BIC codes follow one international format: 8 characters. Characters one to four stand for the bank, characters five and six are the country code and characters seven and eight mark the location.
You can recognise a code from Russia from letters five and six. A code with a different country code come from another country, even if the bank name looks familiar.
The optional last three characters identify a branch or department; XXX means the head office. In most cases the head office code is fine unless the recipient asks for a specific branch.
Bank or transfer service for Russia?
A bank transfer to Russia can cost more than the fee suggests. You pay the transfer fee, sometimes fees from correspondent banks and, most importantly, the margin on the exchange rate.
That exchange rate margin is often the largest cost item. An easy check: set the offered rate next to the mid-market rate and look at the difference.
Specialist money transfer services frequently offer rates closer to the mid-market rate and lower fees. Before your next transfer to Russia, take a minute comparing what arrives on GoldexPay instead of going straight to your bank.
How long does a transfer to Russia take?
There is no single delivery time for transfers to Russia: many land the same day or the next while others need several business days. Bank holidays in Russia or in the sending country can add extra days.
A growing number of banks use SWIFT gpi, which lets them follow a payment from bank to bank. Every gpi transfer carries a unique transaction reference, the UETR, which the sending bank can use to trace it. Keep your transfer receipt.
Receiving money in Russia from abroad
When you expect money from abroad on an account in Russia, send the payer a complete set of details. Give them your name as registered with the bank, your account number or IBAN, your bank’s SWIFT code and your address, which some banks require.
Your bank’s code appears in our list, yet the version on your own statement or in your banking app is leading. It helps to include the name and city of your bank as well because some forms have separate fields for it.
The amount you receive can be lower than what was sent. Correspondent banks can take a fee and your own bank may charge for processing, and if the money is converted, an exchange rate margin applies. Agree with the sender who pays which costs, especially for larger amounts.
The largest SWIFT network in Russia: JSC Rosselkhozbank
Of the 785 banks we list for Russia, JSC Rosselkhozbank has the largest number of codes. The head office uses RUAGRUMMXXX.
