Binance vs eToro: what each one really costs

Picking Binance or eToro is less obvious than it looks. The useful question is how much of your money arrives once every fee and the exchange rate are counted. That is the gap we measure here.

In our comparison, Binance sits in the crypto exchange group and works with Currencies, Cryptocurrencies, while eToro is filed under broker with support for Currencies, Cryptocurrencies. That alone tells you quite a lot about where they overlap and where they do not.

Further down this page we walk through how we work out the cost, what each one is good at and who should pick which. Rates on this page are live, so today’s result is not set in stone.

Can you use Binance and eToro together?

Many people do not use one provider for everything. A second account gives you a backup and an easy price check. Opening an account is usually free, though identity verification can take a while.

For anything above everyday amounts, run the amount through the calculator, as the result depends on the moment and the sum. It takes a minute and can save real money.

If you switch, make sure no balance or scheduled transfer is left behind and save your statements, as you may need them later for your tax return.

A money service and a crypto exchange

This is a comparison across categories: crypto exchange and broker. Their offers overlap only in part. The scenario table only shows the conversions both support, which can be a small slice of what each one does.

A money service is built for sending and spending currencies, often to bank accounts abroad. A crypto exchange revolves around digital assets; regular currencies are mostly the on-ramp and off-ramp. That difference matters more than a few cents on one conversion.

For everyday currency needs, the service built for transfers tends to fit better. If crypto is the goal, the exchange is the logical place, even if it also handles some currency transfers.

How the numbers are worked out

Every provider earns money in two ways: a visible fee and a margin hidden in the exchange rate. As a benchmark we use the live mid-market rate, the rate banks and large traders use among themselves. That gap is the margin, which we add to the fee to get the total cost.

Each conversion is checked with several sample amounts because fixed fees and percentage fees behave differently. We update rates every 30 minutes and take fees from each provider’s public price list. Promotions, account tiers and personal discounts are not always included, so your own offer may differ.

This comparison is independent. Affiliate links help pay for the site, but the ranking is based on cost alone. The numbers decide, not the commission.

Verdict

For 3 out of 3 scenarios that both providers offer, Binance delivered the better result once fees and exchange rate were counted. That gives Binance the edge for most typical transfers.

This does not rule out eToro. The scenario table above shows where eToro comes out ahead, and if your own transfer matches one of those rows, the overall tally matters a lot less.

There is more to it than price. eToro may support a payment method, a currency or a delivery option you need. A few cents on a small transfer rarely beat that kind of convenience.

Where the real cost hides

“No fees” is one of the most common claims in money transfer, and one of the most misleading. If the exchange rate you get is worse than the mid-market rate, you pay through the rate instead. The bigger the amount, the more that margin hurts.

For this reason our comparison combines the fee and the rate margin into one number. Binance and eToro may structure their pricing differently, one with a visible fee and a tight rate, the other with no fee and a wider spread. What counts is what lands in the account at the end.

Watch for extra costs outside the conversion itself: weekend surcharges, card fees, charges by the receiving bank or withdrawal fees on crypto. We include what is published, but it pays to double-check before a large transaction.

The right choice depends on what you do

If you mainly spend abroad on holiday, look at card fees, cash withdrawal limits and weekend surcharges, not just the transfer price. Whichever of the two offers a usable card for your destination has a head start.

If you send money abroad regularly, look at the amount received and how fast it arrives. For large amounts, such as a house deposit or tuition, even a small margin difference adds up, and limits and verification matter as well.

When buying crypto, you need a platform that actually supports crypto, and you should compare spreads and withdrawal costs. For business payments, check whether a business account is available and what it costs. Nothing here is investment advice.

How fast the money arrives

Binance lists its quickest option as Instant, while eToro lists Instant. These are best cases, not guarantees. Weekends, first-time checks and the recipient’s bank can slow things down.

How you fund a transfer makes a big difference. A card payment or instant bank transfer is usually quicker than a regular bank transfer, but it can cost more. If the money is not urgent, the slower and cheaper route is often the smart choice.

Convenience counts too: how easy the app is, whether you can track a transfer and how fast support responds. A small test transfer tells you more than any review.

What to check on safety

Price matters, but so does knowing your money is handled properly. Look for a licence or registration with a financial regulator in your country or region. The supervisor’s public register lets you check this yourself.

With e-money and transfer services, ask about safeguarding: your balance should be held apart from the firm’s own money. That is a different kind of protection from a bank deposit guarantee scheme.

Crypto exchanges deserve extra scrutiny: check their registration, how they store customer assets and whether withdrawals to your own wallet are possible. And on any platform: turn on 2FA and never reuse passwords.

Why the amount can change the winner

The cheapest choice for a small amount is not always the cheapest for a large one. A fixed fee weighs heavily on a small transfer but barely registers on a large one. Our scenario table reflects this by testing several amounts.

If you move larger sums regularly, check whether tiered pricing applies, which is not always visible in our sample amounts. For any large transfer, confirm the final quote in the app before you approve it.
