Coinmerce vs Revolut

Deciding between Coinmerce and Revolut comes down to more than the brand name. The useful question is how much of your money arrives once every fee and the exchange rate are added up. That is exactly what this page measures.

In our comparison, Coinmerce falls into the crypto exchange group and handles Currencies, Cryptocurrencies, while Revolut is filed under broker and covers Currencies, Cryptocurrencies, Precious metals. Those two labels say quite a lot about when one can stand in for the other.

Under the calculator and the scenario table you can read our method, what each one is good at, and how to combine the two. Because the rates are live, the outcome can shift during the day.

Small amounts vs large amounts

The size of the amount can change the winner. A fixed fee weighs heavily on a small transfer but barely registers on a large one. That is why the scenario table shows several amounts, not just one.

If you move larger sums regularly, check whether tiered pricing applies, which is not always visible in our sample amounts. For any large transfer, confirm the final quote in the app before you approve it.

Using both, or switching

You do not have to pick just one. It is perfectly normal to keep Coinmerce for one task and Revolut for another. Signing up rarely costs anything, but verification is not always instant.

Each time you plan a bigger conversion, compare live quotes here first, since rates move and the cheaper side can flip. That small habit can save more than any loyalty bonus.

If you switch, empty the balance, cancel any recurring payments and keep a copy of your transaction history.

Who should pick Coinmerce and who Revolut?

When you travel, look at card fees, cash withdrawal limits and weekend surcharges, not just the transfer price. A multi-currency account with a card is usually the most practical tool.

For transfers to family or bills abroad, the total cost per transfer and the delivery time are what count. With bigger sums, ask about limits and extra checks before you start.

If you want to buy crypto, only a provider that handles crypto will do, and spreads and withdrawal fees matter most. Business users often need other features, such as multiple users and bulk payments. We compare costs only; this is not investment advice.

Two kinds of service, partly overlapping

These two come from different corners of the market: crypto exchange and broker. There is some overlap, but not much. We can only compare the conversions both of them offer.

Money apps are designed around currencies, cards and transfers to bank accounts. An exchange is first of all a place to trade crypto, with euros or dollars mainly used to get in and out. Keep this in mind when you read the result.

For everyday currency needs, a crypto platform is mostly a detour. For crypto, look at the exchange first and treat its currency features as a bonus.

How we calculate the cost

Every provider earns money in two ways: a visible fee and a margin hidden in the exchange rate. Our yardstick is the mid-market rate: the midpoint between what the market bids and asks. The gap is the margin, and we add it to the fee.

We test a range of sample amounts, small, medium and large, since a fixed fee hurts more on small sums. Exchange rates are refreshed every 30 minutes; fees are taken from the published fee schedules. Promotions, account tiers and personal discounts are not always included, so your own offer may differ.

We are not owned by any provider. We may earn a commission through some links; that never affects which provider comes out cheaper. If a provider we earn nothing from is cheaper, it still comes out on top.

Why “zero fee” is not always cheap

“No fees” is one of the most common claims in money transfer, and one of the most misleading. A provider can still earn its money on the rate. The bigger the amount, the more that margin hurts.

That is why we always look at the total: fee plus margin. One provider may charge a clear fee with a tight rate, another may skip the fee and widen the rate. Only the amount that arrives tells you who is really cheaper.

Also look beyond the conversion: card payment fees, surcharges for weekends or rare currencies, and costs on the receiving side. We include what is published, but it pays to double-check before a large transaction.

Which one is cheaper?

In 3 of 3 comparisons we can test on both sides, Revolut left you with more money once fees and exchange rate were counted. If cost is your main concern, start with Revolut.

This does not rule out Coinmerce. Check the table above to see the routes where Coinmerce does better, and if your own transfer matches one of those rows, Coinmerce is simply the cheaper option for you.

Price is also not the only factor. You may already have a verified account with Coinmerce, which saves a sign-up. On a modest amount, a small price gap is often worth less than that convenience.

Delivery time and ease of use

The fastest delivery we have on record for Coinmerce is Instant; for Revolut it is Instant. These are best cases, not guarantees. Weekends, first-time checks and the recipient’s bank can slow things down.

How you fund a transfer makes a big difference. Paying by card tends to be faster, and sometimes more expensive, than a standard bank transfer. Only pay for speed when you actually need it.

Convenience counts too: clear status updates and an app you like save time and stress. Which app feels easier is a matter of taste.

Regulation and safety

Cheap is only good if your money is in safe hands. A legitimate provider is licensed or registered with a financial regulator. Providers normally list their licence and the supervising authority on their website.

An important question is safeguarding: your balance should be held apart from the firm’s own money. Note that safeguarding differs from a bank deposit guarantee.

For crypto exchanges the questions are similar, but not the same: check their registration, how they store customer assets and whether withdrawals to your own wallet are possible. In all cases, enable two-factor authentication (2FA) from day one.
