Binance or Revolut: which one leaves you with more
Picking Binance or Revolut is rarely about the logo. What matters is how much of your money arrives once the fee and the rate markup are added up. That is the gap we measure here.
On our site, Binance sits in the crypto exchange group and works with Currencies, Cryptocurrencies, while Revolut belongs to broker and covers Currencies, Cryptocurrencies, Precious metals. Those two labels say a fair bit about which jobs each one is built for.
Under the calculator and the scenario table we explain our method, where each provider tends to do well, and who should pick which. Because the rates are live, today’s result is not set in stone.
Can you use Binance and Revolut together?
Many people do not use one provider for everything. A second account gives you a backup and an easy price check. Opening an account is usually free, though identity verification can take a while.
Each time you plan a bigger conversion, run the amount through the calculator, since rates move and the cheaper side can flip. It takes a minute and can save real money.
Before you close an account, make sure no balance or scheduled transfer is left behind and save your statements, as you may need them later for your tax return.
Binance or Revolut: which fits your situation?
For travel spending, compare what a card payment in a foreign currency costs at each. A multi-currency account with a card is usually the most practical tool.
If you send money abroad regularly, look at the amount received and how fast it arrives. For large amounts, such as a house deposit or tuition, even a small margin difference adds up, and limits and verification matter as well.
When buying crypto, check that crypto is supported at all, then compare spreads and withdrawal fees. For business payments, check whether a business account is available and what it costs. This page compares cost, not suitability as an investment.
Two kinds of service, partly overlapping
This comparison puts two different kinds of services side by side: crypto exchange and broker. There is some overlap, but not much. Only the shared conversions appear in our scenarios, so the rest of each offer stays out of view.
A money service is built for sending and spending currencies, often to bank accounts abroad. A crypto exchange is built for buying, selling and storing digital assets, with regular money as the way in and out. That difference matters more than a few cents on one conversion.
For everyday currency needs, the service built for transfers tends to fit better. If you want to buy or sell crypto, an exchange offers more choice in assets and order types.
Fees vs exchange-rate margin
“No fees” is one of the most common claims in money transfer, and one of the most misleading. A provider can still earn its money on the rate. The bigger the amount, the more that margin hurts.
For this reason our comparison combines the fee and the rate margin into one number. Binance and Revolut may structure their pricing differently, one with a visible fee and a tight rate, the other with no fee and a wider spread. What counts is what lands in the account at the end.
Other costs can matter too: card payment fees, surcharges for weekends or rare currencies, and costs on the receiving side. We include what is published, but it pays to double-check before a large transaction.
How the numbers are worked out
Every provider earns money in two ways: a visible fee and a margin hidden in the exchange rate. As a benchmark we use the live mid-market rate, the rate banks and large traders use among themselves. Fee plus margin gives the real cost.
We test a range of sample amounts, small, medium and large, because fixed fees and percentage fees behave differently. We update rates every 30 minutes and take fees from each provider’s public price list. Promotions, account tiers and personal discounts are not always included, so your own offer may differ.
This comparison is independent. Affiliate links help pay for the site, but the ranking is based on cost alone. The cheaper option is shown as cheaper, full stop.
Which one is cheaper?
In 4 of 4 conversions that both providers offer, Binance came out cheaper after fees and rate margin. If cost is your main concern, start with Binance.
That does not make Revolut the wrong choice. Scroll back to the table to find the routes where Revolut does better, and if your own transfer matches one of those rows, Revolut is simply the cheaper option for you.
There is more to it than price. Revolut may support a payment method, a currency or a delivery option you need. On a modest amount, a small price gap is often worth less than that convenience.
Does the amount matter?
Who comes out ahead can flip as the amount grows. Fixed fees hit small transfers hardest; percentage margins hit large ones hardest. So look at the row closest to the amount you plan to convert.
Some providers lower their percentage above certain thresholds, and your own price may then be better than the one shown. With Binance or Revolut, check the current terms before you move a significant sum.
Speed: Binance vs Revolut
Binance lists its quickest option as Instant, while Revolut lists Instant. Treat these as the best case rather than a promise. Weekends, first-time checks and the recipient’s bank can slow things down.
Speed often depends on how you pay. Faster funding options can come with a higher fee, so check the total in the calculator. If the money is not urgent, the slower and cheaper route is often the smart choice.
Convenience counts too: clear status updates and an app you like save time and stress. Which app feels easier is a matter of taste.
What to check on safety
Before you look at cost, check who is looking after your money. Look for a licence or registration with a financial regulator in your country or region. The supervisor’s public register lets you check this yourself.
For money services, the key word is safeguarding: customer funds should be kept separate from the company’s own money, so they are protected if the company runs into trouble. Note that safeguarding differs from a bank deposit guarantee.
Crypto exchanges deserve extra scrutiny: ask about registration, custody and withdrawal options. Whichever you choose, switch on two-factor authentication and use a unique password.
