Bybit vs Revolut: what each one really costs
Choosing between Bybit and Revolut is rarely about the logo. The real question is how much of your money arrives once the fee and the rate markup have been taken into account. This page puts a number on that.
In our database, Bybit belongs to the crypto exchange group and handles Currencies, Cryptocurrencies, while Revolut belongs to broker with support for Currencies, Cryptocurrencies, Precious metals. Those two labels say something about where they overlap and where they do not.
Further down this page you can read our method, what each one is good at and which one fits which situation. Because the rates are live, today’s result is not set in stone.
Using both, or switching
You do not have to pick just one. It is perfectly normal to keep Bybit for one task and Revolut for another. Opening an account is usually free, though identity verification can take a while.
Before every larger transfer, check the calculator on this page, since rates move and the cheaper side can flip. It takes a minute and can save real money.
If you switch, make sure no balance or scheduled transfer is left behind and keep a copy of your transaction history.
Speed: Bybit vs Revolut
Bybit lists its quickest option as Instant, while Revolut lists Instant. These are best cases, not guarantees. A first transfer often takes longer because of identity checks.
Speed often depends on how you pay. Faster funding options can come with a higher fee, so check the total in the calculator. If the money is not urgent, the slower and cheaper route is often the smart choice.
Beyond raw speed, think about convenience: how easy the app is, whether you can track a transfer and how fast support responds. A small test transfer tells you more than any review.
How we calculate the cost
There are two parts to the price of any conversion: a visible fee and a margin hidden in the exchange rate. We compare the rate each provider gives you with the live mid-market rate, the midpoint between buy and sell prices on the wholesale market. That gap is the margin, which we add to the fee to get the total cost.
Each conversion is checked with several sample amounts so the effect of fixed fees and percentages becomes visible. We update rates every 30 minutes and take fees from each provider’s public price list. Special offers or paid plans can change the price you actually pay.
This comparison is independent. Affiliate links help pay for the site, but the ranking is based on cost alone. If a provider we earn nothing from is cheaper, it still comes out on top.
Why the amount can change the winner
The size of the amount can change the winner. Fixed fees hit small transfers hardest; percentage margins hit large ones hardest. Our scenario table reflects this by testing several amounts.
For large amounts, it can pay to ask about volume pricing, which is not always visible in our sample amounts. With Bybit or Revolut, check the current terms before you move a significant sum.
Where Bybit and Revolut overlap, and where they do not
These two come from different corners of the market: crypto exchange and broker. Their offers overlap only in part. Only the shared conversions appear in our scenarios, so the rest of each offer stays out of view.
Money apps are designed around currencies, cards and transfers to bank accounts. A crypto exchange revolves around digital assets; regular currencies are mostly the on-ramp and off-ramp. So the cheaper side in the table is only part of the picture.
For everyday currency needs, a crypto platform is mostly a detour. If you want to buy or sell crypto, an exchange offers more choice in assets and order types.
The short answer: Bybit is cheaper more often
In 4 of 4 scenarios that Bybit and Revolut both support, Bybit delivered the better result once fees and exchange rate were counted. On price alone, that makes Bybit the default pick.
Still, Revolut is not out of the race. The scenario table above shows which conversions Revolut still wins. If your currency pair and amount are among them, that single row counts more than the total score.
Price is also not the only factor. You may already have a verified account with Revolut, which saves a sign-up. For small sums, those practical points can outweigh the price difference.
What to check on safety
Price matters, but so does knowing your money is handled properly. A legitimate provider is licensed or registered with a financial regulator. You can usually find the licence details in the footer or legal section of the provider’s website.
An important question is safeguarding: your balance should be held apart from the firm’s own money. Note that safeguarding differs from a bank deposit guarantee.
Crypto exchanges deserve extra scrutiny: registration with a regulator, how customer assets are stored and whether you can withdraw to your own wallet. And on any platform: turn on 2FA and never reuse passwords.
The fee is only half the story
A low or zero fee looks attractive, but it says little about the total cost. A provider can still earn its money on the rate. The bigger the amount, the more that margin hurts.
So we never compare fees on their own. Two providers can arrive at a similar price by very different routes. Only the amount that arrives tells you who is really cheaper.
Also look beyond the conversion: card payment fees, surcharges for weekends or rare currencies, and costs on the receiving side. Some of these sit outside what we can measure, so check the provider’s fee page before a big transfer.
Bybit or Revolut: which fits your situation?
When you travel, look at card fees, cash withdrawal limits and weekend surcharges, not just the transfer price. A multi-currency account with a card is usually the most practical tool.
To send money to a bank account abroad, look at the amount received and how fast it arrives. Large one-off sums deserve a separate check: limits, extra verification and the margin all weigh more.
If you want to buy crypto, you need a platform that actually supports crypto, and you should compare spreads and withdrawal costs. Business users often need other features, such as multiple users and bulk payments. This page compares cost, not suitability as an investment.
