SWIFT/BIC codes in Taiwan

Select a bank below to view the head office code and its other codes. Further down we explain how a code from Taiwan is put together, how to send money to Taiwan without overpaying and how to check a code before you pay.
Getting paid from abroad into an account in Taiwan
If you expect money from abroad in Taiwan, send the payer everything they need in one go. Share your name as registered with the bank, the IBAN or account number, the BIC of your bank and your address.
The code of your bank appears in the list on this page, yet the version on your own statement or in your banking app is leading. You can include your bank’s name and city because some forms have separate fields for it.
The amount you receive can be lower than what was sent. Charges on incoming payments vary from bank to bank. On invoices, state how the fees are split to avoid a shortfall.
SWIFT transfers to Taiwan
Because Taiwan does not belong to SEPA, an international payment normally goes through SWIFT. This means the payment always needs the SWIFT/BIC code of the recipient’s bank in addition to the account details.
In some countries, the account is identified by a local account number rather than an IBAN. The receiving bank often provides a list of required details for incoming international payments. SWIFT payments sometimes go via correspondent banks and fees can be taken along the way.
About our data and how to check a code
Have the recipient copy their bank details straight from their online banking. A wrong code can cause delays, a returned payment or extra fees – compare it with the code in our list.
We collect SWIFT/BIC codes using public sources and update our list from time to time. Banks merge, close branches and change codes – a directory can be a step behind. Before any payment of any size, confirm the code with the recipient. GoldexPay is a comparison site, not a bank.
Be wary of invoices containing changed bank details – a common fraud method. A valid BIC says nothing about whether a request is genuine: criminals use real codes too.

How SWIFT codes from Taiwan are built
Bank identifier codes follow the same format worldwide: 8 characters plus an optional three-character extension. First comes four letters for the bank, followed by a two-letter country code and two characters for the location.
Whatever the bank, all Taiwan codes share the same fifth and sixth letters: the ISO code of the country. Codes with other letters in that position belong to another country, even if the bank name looks familiar.
The optional last three characters stand for a specific branch; XXX is used for the head office. For most transfers the head office code is fine, unless the recipient gives you a branch code.
When does money sent to Taiwan arrive?
An international transfer to Taiwan usually needs anywhere from one to several business days – it depends on currency, route and the banks in between. Transfers sent late in the day or just before weekends and holidays usually start a business day later.
A growing number of banks are connected to SWIFT gpi, which lets them follow a payment from bank to bank. Each payment carries a unique reference, the UETR. Keep the payment confirmation until the money has arrived.
What a transfer to Taiwan really costs
What you pay for a transfer to Taiwan is made up of more than one component – not only the fee you see. You pay a transfer fee, sometimes fees from correspondent banks along the way and, most importantly, the margin on the exchange rate if the money is converted.
The markup on the rate tends to be the biggest cost item, even though it is not listed as a fee. A simple test: put the offered rate against the mid-market rate and work out the difference on your amount.
Money transfer services frequently offer rates closer to the mid-market rate with clearer fees. On GoldexPay you can compare what recipients in Taiwan receive with different providers, so you can pick the cheapest route.
