Receiving money in Taiwan from abroad
A sender in another country needs several details about your account. That means: your full name as your bank knows it, your IBAN or account number, the BIC of your bank and sometimes your postal address.
Your bank’s code appears in the list on this page but always compare it with your own bank details. You can include the name and city of your bank as well.
Expect that the amount credited is below the amount on the sender’s receipt. Correspondent banks can take a fee, and when currencies differ, a markup on the rate applies. For business payments, state who bears the costs to avoid a shortfall.

About our data and how to check a code
The most reliable source for a SWIFT code is the bank details provided by the recipient. When the code you were given differs from the code listed here, do not guess – contact the recipient or their bank.
This list is based on publicly available sources that we update periodically. Banks reorganise, close branches and change codes – a directory can be a step behind. Before a payment that matters, confirm the code with the recipient’s bank. We are an independent comparison site for money transfers, not a bank.
Watch out for invoices containing a new account. Before paying, verify a change of bank details through a separate channel on a number you know.
How SWIFT codes from Taiwan are built
Every SWIFT/BIC code has 8 or 11 characters in a fixed order. It starts with four letters for the bank, followed by a two-letter country code and a two-character location code.
In every code from Taiwan, letters five and six are the two-letter ISO code of Taiwan. When the country letters do not match Taiwan, the code belongs to a bank in another country, so check again.
The optional last three characters stand for a specific branch; XXX means the head office. In most cases the head office code is what you need, unless the recipient gives you a branch code.
When does money sent to Taiwan arrive?
A SWIFT payment to Taiwan usually takes anywhere from one to several business days – it depends on currency, route and the banks in between. Bank holidays in either country add extra days.
Many banks are connected to SWIFT gpi for faster and traceable payments. Every gpi transfer gets a unique reference, the UETR. Specialist transfer services usually show tracking online, which makes it easier to see where the money is.
Bank or transfer service for Taiwan?
The price of a payment to Taiwan is made up of several parts – not only the fee you see. You pay a transfer fee, sometimes charges from intermediary banks and, most importantly, the exchange rate markup if the money is converted.
That exchange rate margin tends to be the biggest cost item because it is hidden in the rate. A simple test: put the rate you get against the mid-market rate and look at the difference.
Specialist money transfer services frequently offer rates closer to the mid-market rate and lower fees. On GoldexPay you can compare what recipients in Taiwan receive with different providers.
Why a transfer to Taiwan needs a SWIFT code
Taiwan is outside the SEPA area. Payments from abroad normally travel over the SWIFT network.
In some countries, accounts are identified by a local account number instead of an IBAN and sometimes a local routing or branch code. Ask the recipient which details their bank needs for incoming international payments. SWIFT payments sometimes go via correspondent banks, each of which may deduct a fee.

Of the 369 banks we list for Taiwan, Hua Nan Commercial Bank, LTD. is listed with the most SWIFT codes. Its head office code is HNBKTWTPXXX, which is the code to use when no branch is specified.
