Bank SWIFT codes for Taiwan

This overview covers 369 banks and financial institutions in Taiwan, with 1889 SWIFT/BIC codes in total. Each code identifies an institution or one of its branches, so a payment from abroad reaches the right place.

Look for the recipient’s bank in the list and open its page to see all codes we have and the details a transfer needs. Further down we explain how a code from Taiwan is put together, how to send money to Taiwan without overpaying and how to check a code before you pay.

Check the code before you pay

The best place to find the right code is a document from the bank itself. When the code you were given differs from our list, do not guess – contact the recipient or their bank.

This list is compiled from public sources and is updated regularly. Still, banks merge, rename themselves or retire codes, so information can be out of date. For any payment that matters, check the code with the recipient’s bank. We are a comparison site for money transfers, not a bank.

Fraudsters often use fake invoices with new bank details from what looks like a familiar address. A real SWIFT code tells you nothing about whether a request is genuine – scammers use the codes of real banks.

Bank or transfer service for Taiwan?

A bank transfer to Taiwan often costs more than you think. You pay the transfer fee, sometimes charges from intermediary banks along the way and, most importantly, the exchange rate markup if the money is converted.

That exchange rate margin tends to be the biggest cost item. Check the rate you are offered against the mid-market rate, the midpoint you see on financial news sites.

For many currency pairs, a specialist provider is less expensive than a traditional bank transfer, mainly because of the rate. GoldexPay compares transfer services next to each other so you can see what actually arrives in Taiwan before you commit.

Paying a bank in Taiwan from abroad

Taiwan is not part of the SEPA area. International transfers to Taiwan usually travel through the SWIFT network, and the BIC of the receiving bank is required.

Not all countries use IBAN numbers; in that case the local account number is used instead. The receiving bank usually provides instructions for incoming international payments, and it is worth following them to the letter. SWIFT payments can pass through correspondent banks and fees can be taken along the way.

Hua Nan Commercial Bank, LTD. and its SWIFT codes

In our data, Hua Nan Commercial Bank, LTD. has the largest number of SWIFT/BIC codes of all banks in Taiwan. The head office uses HNBKTWTPXXX, which is the code to use when no branch is specified.

The number of codes tells you something about how it registers branches and services than about how big it is. If not the recipient asks for a branch, HNBKTWTPXXX is fine for a payment to Hua Nan Commercial Bank, LTD..

The structure of a Taiwan SWIFT/BIC code

SWIFT/BIC codes follow the same format worldwide: 8 characters plus an optional three-character extension. Characters one to four stand for the bank, characters five and six are the country code and the next two mark the location.

Whatever the bank, every code from Taiwan share the same country code in positions five and six, namely the ISO code of Taiwan. Codes with other letters in that position belong to another country – a quick way to catch mistakes.

The long version ends in three characters for a branch – XXX stands for the head office. Use a branch code only when the recipient explicitly gives you one.

Transfer times to Taiwan

There is no fixed delivery time for payments to Taiwan: many land within a day. Payments made after the cut-off time or on a weekend or public holiday often start a business day later.

A growing number of banks use SWIFT gpi for faster and traceable payments. Every gpi transfer carries a unique reference, the UETR that banks can use to see where the money is. Specialist transfer services usually show tracking online.

Getting paid from abroad into an account in Taiwan

A sender in another country needs a few details from you, and missing ones are a common cause of delays. In practice that means: your name as your bank knows it, your account number or IBAN, the SWIFT/BIC code of your bank and sometimes your address.

The code of your bank appears in our list. You can add the name and city of your bank because some forms have separate fields for it.

The amount you receive can be less than the amount sent. Fees for incoming transfers vary per bank. On invoices, agree how the fees are split, so nobody is left short.
