This overview covers 369 banks and other institutions in Taiwan. Each code points to an institution or a specific branch or department, so a payment from abroad reaches the right place.

Sending money to Taiwan for less
The price of a payment to Taiwan has several parts, and the fee on your screen is only one of them. You pay the transfer fee, sometimes charges from intermediary banks and, most importantly, the margin on the exchange rate if the money is converted.
Most of the cost usually sits in the exchange rate: banks convert at a rate with a margin built in. Check the rate you are offered with the mid-market rate that you find on financial sites. The difference is your real cost.
Specialised transfer providers frequently use rates closer to the mid-market rate and lower fees. GoldexPay compares transfer services next to each other, showing what actually arrives in Taiwan.
When does money sent to Taiwan arrive?
There is no single delivery time for payments to Taiwan: some land the same day or the next while others need several business days. Payments made after the cut-off time or just before a weekend or public holiday usually start a business day later.
Many banks use SWIFT gpi. Every gpi transfer carries a unique transaction reference, the UETR. Save the payment confirmation.
The largest SWIFT network in Taiwan: Hua Nan Commercial Bank, LTD.
Of the 369 banks in Taiwan, Hua Nan Commercial Bank, LTD. is listed with the largest number of SWIFT codes. The head office uses HNBKTWTPXXX – the code most transfers need.
Practice differs in how many codes they register, so the count is not a ranking of size. If not a branch code is given, HNBKTWTPXXX is fine for transfers to this bank.
Receiving money in Taiwan from abroad
When you are waiting for a payment from another country in Taiwan, send the payer a complete set of details. Give them your name as registered with the bank, the IBAN or account number, the BIC of your bank and your address.
The code of your bank is in our list, yet the version on your own statement or in your banking app is leading. Certain sending banks also want your bank’s address.
Expect that the incoming amount is smaller than what the sender paid. Charges on incoming payments vary per bank. For business payments, state how the fees are split to avoid a shortfall.
How SWIFT codes from Taiwan are built
Every SWIFT/BIC code consists of eight or eleven characters, always in the same order. Characters one to four stand for the bank, characters five and six are the country code and the next two give the location.
For banks in Taiwan, characters five and six are the ISO country code of Taiwan. A code with other letters in that position come from another country – a quick way to catch mistakes.
The long version ends in three characters for a branch, where XXX means the head office. Choose a branch code only when the recipient explicitly gives you one.
How reliable is this list?
The safest source for a SWIFT code is the recipient’s own bank details. When the code you were given does not match our list, do not guess: check with the recipient or the bank.
We gather bank codes using public sources and update them regularly. Institutions reorganise, change names and retire codes. Treat our data as a starting point; the recipient’s bank details are leading. GoldexPay is not a bank.
Watch out for invoices with a new account – a common fraud method. Always confirm a change of bank details by phone.
SWIFT transfers to Taiwan
Because Taiwan does not belong to SEPA, an international payment is usually sent as a SWIFT payment. That means the payment always needs the SWIFT/BIC code of the recipient’s bank, together with the account number or IBAN.
Not all countries use the IBAN; in that case the local account number is used instead. The receiving bank usually has a list of required details for incoming international payments – follow them exactly. SWIFT payments sometimes go via correspondent banks, each of which may deduct a fee.
Banks in Taiwan beginning with the letter :letter
This filter limits the list to banks in Taiwan starting with :letter to make searching quicker. The counts in the introduction still refer to the whole country and not only this selection.
If a bank does not appear here, try the full list – the registered name can differ from the name people use. The complete list remains one click away when the letter filter does not help.
