Bank SWIFT codes for Taiwan
This directory covers 369 banks and financial institutions in Taiwan, with 1889 SWIFT/BIC codes in total. You need a SWIFT/BIC code mostly when making international transfers and for payments in a foreign currency.
Each bank has its own page with its main code and, where available, branch codes. The rest of this page explain the structure of the codes, what transfers cost and the checks worth doing before you send money.
The structure of a Taiwan SWIFT/BIC code
Every SWIFT/BIC code has eight or eleven characters. First comes a four-letter bank code, followed by two letters for the country and a two-character location code.
Whatever the bank, all Taiwan codes have the same country code in positions five and six: the ISO code of the country. Codes with other letters in that position come from a bank abroad.
The long version ends in a branch code – XXX stands for the head office. Use a branch code just if the recipient explicitly gives you one; otherwise the head office code is the safe choice.
About our data and how to check a code
The best place to find the right code remains a document from the bank itself, such as a statement or the account page in online banking. When the code you were given does not match our list, stop and ask.
This list is compiled from public sources that we update periodically. Banks reorganise, close branches and change codes, and no directory catches every change immediately. Treat this list as a reference: the bank details from the recipient come first. GoldexPay is an independent comparison site, not a bank.
Scammers regularly send fake invoices carrying changed bank details that look completely genuine. Before paying, verify a change of bank details through a separate channel.
Most SWIFT codes in Taiwan: Hua Nan Commercial Bank, LTD.
Of the 369 banks we list for Taiwan, Hua Nan Commercial Bank, LTD. is listed with the most codes. The head office uses HNBKTWTPXXX.
Practice differs in whether they register branch codes – a high count is not a measure of size. Paying someone at Hua Nan Commercial Bank, LTD.? Use HNBKTWTPXXX except when the recipient gives you a branch code.

The cheapest way to send money to Taiwan
The price of a transfer to Taiwan has several parts – not only the fee you see. On top of a fixed fee, correspondent banks may take a cut and, if currencies are converted, the bank usually applies a less favourable rate than the actual market rate.
The real cost is often in the rate, not in the fee: banks convert at a rate with a margin built in. Compare the bank’s rate against the mid-market rate; the gap is what conversion costs you.
For a lot of currency pairs, a transfer service is cheaper than a bank, mainly because of the rate. GoldexPay lists these providers next to each other so you can see the amount that reaches the recipient before you commit.
Receiving money in Taiwan from abroad
Someone abroad who wants to pay you will ask for several details from you. Share the account holder’s name, your account number or IBAN, the BIC of your bank and your address, which some banks require.
The code of your bank appears in our list but always compare it with your own bank details. It helps to include your bank’s name and city, since some payment forms ask for it.
The amount you receive can be less than what was sent. Intermediary banks may deduct a fee, your bank may charge for incoming payments, and when currencies differ, a markup on the rate applies. Make clear with the sender who pays which costs, especially for larger amounts.
Why a transfer to Taiwan needs a SWIFT code
Taiwan is not part of the SEPA area, the European zone for uniform euro payments. Payments from abroad normally go over the SWIFT network, and the BIC of the receiving bank is required.
In some countries, accounts are identified by a domestic account number rather than an IBAN and sometimes a local routing or branch code. Ask the recipient which details their bank needs for payments from abroad. International transfers sometimes go via correspondent banks, each of which may deduct a fee.
Transfer times to Taiwan
How quickly a payment reaches Taiwan depends on a few things: which currency you send, how many intermediary banks are involved, daily processing deadlines and time zones. Bank holidays in Taiwan or in the sending country can add a day or more.
If the money is late, the sender should contact the sending bank. Specialist transfer services often show a status in their app so you can follow the payment.
