Netherlands: banks and their SWIFT/BIC codes
This overview contains 704 banks and other institutions in Netherlands and 1714 SWIFT/BIC codes between them. You will need such a code mainly for international transfers, and especially for payments in foreign currencies.
Pick a bank below to see the head office code and any branch codes. Further down we explain how a code from Netherlands is put together, how to send money there without overpaying and what to check before you pay.
Receiving money in Netherlands from abroad
To receive a transfer from abroad in Netherlands, the person paying you needs not just the SWIFT code. Share the account holder’s name, the IBAN or account number, your bank’s SWIFT code and your address, which some banks require.
Your bank’s code appears in the list on this page. It helps to add the name and city of your bank as well, since some payment forms ask for it.
The amount you receive is often less than the amount sent. Correspondent banks can take a fee, and if the money is converted, an exchange rate margin applies. On invoices, state how the fees are split, so nobody is left short.
Filter: banks in Netherlands with :letter
The letter filter narrows the list to banks from Netherlands that begin with :letter to make searching quicker. The figures for Netherlands on this page cover every bank we list.
Some banks appear under their official name, which may start with words like Bank or Banco, so the letter can differ from what you expect. Use the full list for Netherlands when you do not know how the name is spelled.
Recognising a SWIFT code from Netherlands
SWIFT/BIC codes follow one international format: eight characters, sometimes followed by three more. The first four letters stand for the bank, the fifth and sixth characters form the country code and the next two give the location.
You can spot a code from Netherlands by the fifth and sixth characters – those always form the country code of Netherlands. A code with other letters in that position come from another country.
When a code ends in XXX, it means the head office, and the 8-character version leads to the same place. In most cases the head office code is what you need, unless the recipient gives you a branch code.
How reliable is this list?
The most reliable source for a SWIFT code is the recipient’s own bank details: an invoice, a statement or their online banking. An incorrect BIC may lead to delays, a payment being sent back or additional charges, so compare it with the list on this page.
This list is based on public sources that we update periodically. Still, banks merge or retire codes. Treat our data as a starting point rather than the last word. GoldexPay is not a bank.
Fraudsters regularly use payment requests carrying new bank details. A real SWIFT code tells you nothing about who owns the account: criminals use real codes too.
The Euro (EUR) and conversion costs
The national currency in Netherlands is the Euro (EUR). If you send money in a different currency, the amount gets converted somewhere along the way – by your bank, a bank in between or the recipient’s bank.
Who converts the payment matters. Often you pay less if you send EUR straight away through a provider that converts near the mid-market rate rather than letting the receiving bank convert. Exchange rates change during the day, so a quote is usually valid only briefly.
Tracking a payment to Netherlands
There is no fixed delivery time for payments to Netherlands: many arrive the same day or the next, others take several business days. Public holidays in Netherlands or in the sending country can add a day or more to the journey.
Many banks are connected to SWIFT gpi, which lets them follow a payment from bank to bank. Each gpi transfer gets a unique reference, the UETR, which the sending bank can use to trace it. Save the payment confirmation.

Euro payments to Netherlands: is a BIC needed?
Inside SEPA, euro transfers to Netherlands use common rules. The BIC field is usually optional in that case.
A SWIFT code still matter for payments in other currencies and when the money comes from outside SEPA. Euro payments within SEPA normally land by the next business day. Provided no conversion is involved, the transfer tends to be cheap.
What a transfer to Netherlands really costs
The price of a transfer to Netherlands is made up of more than one component – not only the fee you see. There is the transfer fee, possibly charges from intermediary banks along the way and, most importantly, the exchange rate markup.
Most of the cost usually sits in the exchange rate, rather than in the fee. An easy check: set the rate you get against the mid-market rate and work out the difference on your amount.
Specialised transfer providers frequently use rates closer to the mid-market rate and lower fees. GoldexPay lists transfer services next to each other so you can see the amount that reaches the recipient for the same amount sent.
